The rules say that an individual figure who loses (not a casualty) will run from the melee. Assuming he does not become shaken at any point, how far from the site of the melee will he run? The rules don't specify.

Just move him a couple of inches to the rear.

When the Melee has been decided, he will either rejoin his victorious unit, or participate in their retreat.

Thanks, guys, I wasn't too far off the mark, then. I was having the figs fall back about 4 inches. One thing I have done, though, is have the movement required by the runners or stragglers to rejoin their units deducted from the movement their units could make.

I've always done 6 inched away from the melee.

I have always done just far enough away so you know not to count in next round of melee, no set distance.
