Looks well-made, but looks a bit ninja-heavy to me. Reserving judgement for now.

I agree. It does look well made.

The marketing department would go heavy on ninjas in the trailer.

Regardless of ninja proportional content in the show itself, this should be very entertaining!

The book and the earlier mini series were both so good, hope this lives up.

The book is a classic. I'm wondering if the ninja-heavy aspect is to elevate the level of violence. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the TV series was well done. I will definitely watch the remake.

The ninja sequence is likely portraying the amida tong incident turned up to eleven because that kind of stuff just works in visual media :P

While the original was a big hit here, it tanked in Japan.

We were all "ooh look, Japanese culture" and they were all "what crappy portrayal of our history".

Japanese TV has a long tradition of taiga historical costume dramas that run for 50 episodes each year, and Shōgun paled beside those.

On the other hand, Japanese audiences do love their Ninja entertainment. Check out 1960s TV series The Samurai on YouTube, it was dubbed into English for the Australian market (where it was also a huge hit); pity we never got to see it stateside. So, if there is more ninja content, that may well help this version of Shōgun for Japan!
