Crime began increasing in 2019. Only 17 and 18 showed decreases. The lowest crime rate in this century was in 2014. 2020 was the worst recent increase, but the per capita increases slowed quite a bit by 2022.

It was terrible during the crack epidemic in the 80s, improved slowly in the 90s. At its worst, the recent per capita crimes rates were still well below the 80s and 90s. I was around then. By the way I am a gun owner, support the 2nd, but half a billion guns in private hands in this country is not a well regulated militia,IMO. Too much firepower on the street IMO.

Tort, you will recall the question in GATSBY of how things collapse: slowly at first, and then all at once. We are plainly a deteriorating and declining culture, still in the slow phase, but we fear not much longer. ALL of our institutions are demonstrably ineffective and also hemorrhaging the trust of the people whose welfare should be their concern. Another war, another plague, another economic crash, seems likely to find our resiliency depleted. And one (or more) of those IS coming.
