I finally codified what I like about wargaming, to help myself better organize my thoughts about certain rules, scenarios etc.

Have you seen the new "Emperor of the Battlefield" Napoleonic rules for the Revolutionary and Empire years that were demonstrated at the SELWG show?

The game was shown in 28mm and in 15mm with half a dozen helpers actively asking and answering the public questions. Also a video blogger!

Cavcmdr, you mention a video blogger. Is there a video of the SELWG game using these rules? Please provide a link if available. Thank you.

Napoleon of the West, your thoughts align with my own about what makes a game enjoyable. First, it is the spectacle of a table full of figures and terrain, and finally, it must at be fun. Yes, the first is subjective, and the second dependent more upon the companions than the rules, as important as the rules may be.

Hi. Here is a link to the SELWG 2023 video.

Emperor of the Battlefield is featured towards the end.
Go to 28:20 to see the demonstration table and taster / training areas in 15mm.

If the advertising is now over? Thanks.

Good answers, Napoleon. Of course, as you say, somewhat subjective. The tables I loved in the late 1960's probably wouldn't look so pretty today, for instance. And while "fun" for me certainly involves decisions, I seem have a much lower record-keeping tolerance than a lot of rules authors and players.

Yeah, I totally agree with condotta that the players around the table make a huge impact on the game experience. I was talking about the rules, because it is true that some rules facilitate fun games more than others. I also think it's fair to say that record keeping can make a game unfun
