Sam was starting to look a little shabby and with a new Pulp campaign in 2024 I decided to give him a makeover with GW Contrast Paints

No offense intended, but he looks like he got The Dip Technique, but cleaner. Having said that, he looks really good. Cheers!

Sgt Slag – I actually gave the GW Contrast paints a try and that's what I used.

Understood. My comment was that the end result appears similar to what The Dip Technique achieves.

To me, Contrast Paints, and Speed Paints, are variations on The Dip Technique: similar, but much better, an improvement on the tried and true Dip Technique which is more monochromatic.

His jacket, and his hat, really remind me of Royal Walnut colored Minwax Polyshades' effect: Cyclops, Dip'ed.

If I were just starting out collecting and painting miniatures, I would invest in Speed Paints, without hesitation. I am down to less then 200 figures left to paint, and then I will be done. At this point in my hobby, neither Speed Paints nor Contrast Paints, are worth the investment. I wish they had been invented 30 years ago, when I started… Cheers!

Sgt Slag – Interesting as I was not familiar with the Dip Technique. I have done all of my Northwest Frontier Indian Army this year using speed paints and I used some of them for highlights of my Pashtun Tribesmen.

Those look very good. Very good, indeed. Speed Paints continue to amaze me.

The Dip Technique is shockingly fast. It was the Army Painting Enthusiast's best friend… Until Speed Paints came along.

I average 10 minutes of assembly line painting time, per 28mm figure, including the Minwax application, and a bulk spray application of matte clear coat.

The YouTuber, Wyloch, shared that he converted from The Dip Technique, to Speed Paints, cutting his painting time down to 2 minutes!!!

Speed Paints are 5 times faster, and a lot better finished result, with multi-color shading. Game Over!

Seriously, where were Speed Paints, 30 years ago?… LOL! Cheers!
