Greetings! Got a question regarding translating/adapting 1st edition F&F scenarios to Brigade F&F (aka 2nd edition). I have gleaned that the stand requirements are not exactly a 1 to 1 translation, but I could be wrong. Can anyone shed some light? There are some interesting scenarios in 1st Edition that haven't made it to Brigade and I'm interested in playing a few. Plus, if the LUDICROUS STAND REQUIREMENT for the the "Battle of Antietam (Grand Battle)" scenario in the Great Eastern Scenario book (1st ed.) can be reduced, I'd love to know! (352 Union Inf. stands with an optional 64; 49 Union command stands; 40 Union artillery with an optional 16 !?!?!?). I'm not one to shy away from making stands. Since January, I've made roughly, for each side, 220 Inf, 30+ Inf Command, 20+ artillery WITH 20+ matching limbers, 30ish mounted cavalry and requisite cavalry command and dismounted cavalry stands. That's enough to play 98 – 99% of Brigade (2nd ed.) F&F and Regimental F&F without proxies, crib sheets, etc and I'll have 40 more inf stands each side by end of November. I still won't be able to field the Battle of Perryville, though (I'll be short around 40 inf stands each side and over 10 Confederate command stands… =P |

I believe the stand requirement for Antietam is so large because they did the scenario at the 1:150 scale rather than the 1:200 scale. Probably they chose the slightly smaller version because of the small size of many of the Confederate brigades. But if you re-sized the scenario for 1:200 you could do it with 33% fewer stands. (It would also require a smaller table, and it might be necessary to combine a few of the very smallest Confederate units.) |

Eumelus is correct. The original F&F rules Antietam scenario is set at 1 stand = 150 men, so changing to 1 stand = 200 men would reduce stands needed. But Reb brigades will be smaller, so you might think about consolidating brigades? Stand size are the same in both versions of the Brigade rules. |

Other thing to consider (but I don't see as a stopper) is the v2 uses smallarms types that were not in the original. I'm working up a scenario for Pipe Creek and will probably go with the 'old standard' |

When I first started gaming the ACW – I used FnF at a 1:300 scale and adjusted distances. Worked fine for larger battles |

When I first started gaming the ACW – I used FnF at a 1:300 scale and adjusted distances. I did the same thing. Here is all the chart conversions for 1:300 scale. One inch equal 80yards, 1 turn is 40 minutes. link Just measure out 9" instead of 12" from the 1:200 scale scenario maps and can get full battles in reasonable space. Kim |
