I recently returned to wargaming after nearly four decades away. Having got my various armies out, found my rules or bought new ones I feel the urge to get into the Medieval/WOTR period (I live close to some of the battle sites).

I've looked at various figures both in terms of scale and manufactures and have opted for Baccus 6mm my question is anyone got any recommendations for rules that play well for 6mm battles.

Currently learning towards Impetus 2.

DBA v3.0

DBA v 3 is a lot kinder to medieval troop types than earlier versions and does play with more 'historical' results IMHO.

Impetus looked interesting to me too but I never did get around to trying them out.

Much appreciated DBA3 seems the way to go.

Test of Resolve is a good set. Wel researched and very playable (I was involved in the play testing).

You also might want to take a look at "To the Strongets!" by Simon Miller (Big Red Bat). bigredbatshop.co.uk

The rules are scale-agnostic. I think they would work well with 6mm figures. Simon recommends using 40mm unit frontages in 50mm square grid boxes with a 600mm x 400mm table size or up to a 120mm unit frontage in 150mm square boxes with a 1800mm x 1200 mm table.

I've used these rules successfully with 15mm figures. With 6mm figures you could really get the big panoply of WOTR battles.

All the rules mentioned were ones I've looked at so I've decided to take the plunge on the following.

DBA3 & To the Strongest, I do like to have multiple rules for periods and given I've found I only have one set of rules for Ancients (Shock of Impact) it gives me some options there too.
