Hello everyone,

What are the rules (if possible with a DBXXX system) and with if possible equipment book with tables of historical organization of units with army lists ect…to simulate an attack on the free world by the Bolshevik hordes and their substitutes between 1972 and 1982?

khanscom19 Oct 2023 6:52 a.m. PST

"World's Major Armies 1981" published by Enola Games and Navwar. Contains TO&Es for the Soviet Union and most western armies. No complete orders of battle and no game rules.

Hi Paskal,

You might find this of interest. HOTT modern. A "DBX" style game. I have used it and it is fun.

thanks to you two,

@ Kropotkin303
And where can I find a paper version of this little gem ?

Martin Rapier20 Oct 2023 1:17 a.m. PST

The only option available within the constraints of the OP is HoTT modern. There isn't a paper version, you have to print it out or type your own QRS (like I did).

If you don't want to use DBx, then there are loads. Modern Spearhead, Fistful of Tows and Cold War Commander spring to mind.

OK thanks Martin but where are the scales for the representation of troops, the firing ranges and movement distances etc…

Kropotkin30321 Oct 2023 2:05 a.m. PST

Thanks Martin. Was going to add that it is only a web page. Some senarios for HOTT modern are here Paskal.

"OK thanks Martin but where are the scales for the representation of troops, the firing ranges and movement distances etc…"

There aren't any scales as such, although the elements represent battalion sized units.

You can probably infer some distances from the scenarios, map size and unit density. It is based on the fantasy version of DBA, so it s all very notional. Max artillery range is 20", MBTs 6" ATGM 8" and infantry 2", so 1"=500m is a reasonable guess (assuming the infantry are battalions with integral mortars, HMGs etc).

There is a WW2 version as well with a number of historical scenarios.

I've just realised that the link above doesn't have any of the scenarios in it, which is a real shame. I guess the original versions have vanished in the general internet churn.

@Kropotkin303

Thank you for modern HOTT and its few scenarios. I copied and pasted it.

And there's nothing else in style on this subject?

@Martin Rapier

OK thanks, There is also a WW2 version with a number of historical scenarios but where?

Should be able to contact Bruce MacFarlane.

The 10mm is 1/144th, except at Caliver books, where you can find lead figurines at this scale for the first French army of this period.
