Hey guys, first thread here on TMP:)
I'm looking into the Battle of Pfaffenhoffem on 1 August 1633 and am having trouble finding substantial information aside from that of a singular source (https://www.tercios.fr/2020/05/12/la-bataille-de-pfaffenhoffen-1er-aout-1633/?print=print), which I find to be of dubious quality considering it's directed at wargamers. I thought I'd head here to see if anyone knows anything more about the specifics of battle. I also found an engraving of the battle on the French Wikipedia page (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4c/Pfaffenhoffen_bataille_1633.jpg), but am unsure as to when it was created and its credibility. I read on a different thread that the Lorrainer military left very sparse records during the Thirty Years' War but if anyone can redirect me to any sources on them that would also be appreciated. Anything helps, thanks in advance guys!

The engraving is part of Merians Theatrum Europaeum, Part III from 1639. As a historian I would consider it a quite reliable source. You can find it with a description here: link

There also seames to be a leaflet which is included in Deutsche illustrierte Flugblätter des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts Part II, but I couldnt find it online. Maybe it is identical with this one, dating from the year of the battle: link

Thanks for the great info AnselmFranz, glad to have a second engraving that backs up Merian's work. Sorry I'm leeching off of you instead of doing my own research, but do you happen to have any info or know anything on the Lorrainer armies during this time period? Appreciate your expertise! :)

Sadly i cant really give agood answer to this. I fear there is not much information about the Lorraine army of that time out there, at least I havent seen it yet.

AnselmFranz, a user on a different forum for miniature wargaming has provided me with the title of a book about the subject: "Le Duc Charles IV de Lorraine et son Armée" by Jean-Charles Fulaine. Although it appears hard to find, from a search on WorldCat I found that the HathiTrust digital library has an ebook version. The thread also provided another book specifically about the Battle of Pfaffenhoffen: "Pfaffenhofens Schicksal im Dreißigjährigen Kriege. Die Schlacht von Pfaffenhofen und die Zerstörung der Stadt im Jahre." I am requesting this second book through interlibrary loan so I will be able to have more concrete info on the course of the battle soon. In the meantime, this website has a collection of contemporary narrations of the battle: link
