I would imagine one of HAMAS aims was to provoke the Israelis into the attack which seems inevitable.
They'll gain recruits as the Palestinians take casualties.
A huge pointless circle of hate, spite, suffering and death.

"They'll gain recruits as the Palestinians take casualties.
A huge pointless circle of hate, spite, suffering and death."

Render Gaza Strip uninhabitable and force the Palestinians to leave on their own accord. Hamas can preach hate and recruit all they want from far away in some refugee camp in Turkey. The goal for Israel should be securing that border forever and removing the endless threat from rocket and mortar attacks. The Hamas suicide murder rape squads will have a much more difficult time getting at the Israeli civilians they lust for.

As you now compare to WWII. About 14 million Germans were ethnically cleansed from eastern Prussia. They were persecuted, raped and murdered by the Russians. Driven from their hometurf and ended up in "modern time" Germany. There they were even despised by the other germans.

The displaced Germans accepted their fate and have not demanded their original territory back. they do not conduct raids into present day Poland or commit atrocities.

What Hamas is doing is beyond words. And large parts of MENA is supporting and celebrating.

Another thing that surprises me is that it is very difficult to own a firearm in Israel. I thought they would be awash with weapons but nope. And they have suffered for it. If they hade been more armed losses, I think, would have been much much lower. Police and military is a good thing but even better is a rifle in your own hands. I have faith in the police but even more faith in a .223 carbine and a few hundred rounds of ammo… I might go down no matter what but at least I'm going down fighting.

Where is this hate for Israel coming from?

The "Squad" and BLM/Antifa types have been awful but let us not forget the far right. At the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville those khaki clad, black polo, teki torch marching losers were chanting "Jews will not replace us". They represented a who's who of far right entities.

The vermin that killed all those people in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, Robert Bowers, was a fan of far right radio person Jim Quinn and a huge proponent of the silly great replacement theory. He was a fan on Gab of virtually every weird far right conspiracy theory.

Dragon Gunner, at least part of the reason that there are so many people in Gaza is that the neighbouring countries refuse to take them. They cannot simply leave.

Personal logo Dal Gavan Supporting Member of TMP11 Oct 2023 1:36 p.m. PST

As far as Israel is concerned, the discussion is particularly sensitive, since the USA is the undisputed protector of Israel and has close cultural, especially religious ties.

Well said, Arjuna, and it's one reason I won't post my opinions on what's happening. As for Hamas and the people that support them- Bill doesn't allow the use of the words that describe them on the forum. Hopefully they'll achieve martyrdom quickly and then be really disappointed to find that the 72 Virgins were just bait advertising.

Yet some of these same countries would rather fund them directly or covertly with murderous intent. Those same funds could be used for more constructive purposes. Speaks volumes for Islamic brotherhood… They could take them in as immigrants.?

The Israeli build-up, the bombing, the inevitable advance into Gaza, talk of flattening it… and the merciless Hamas leaders smile.
Not if they all are dead … most will be by the time this war is over. Their top leader in Qatar … he won't get near Israel … and live. This is the last time the IDF will give them a pass. They are going to make these murders pay.

Their brutal attack bought them nothing but rage, vengeance and payback by Israel. If Hamas shows photos of dead civilians in Gaza. The Israelis can show the photos from Hamas's murderous attack on mostly civilians. There will be few Hamas prisoners … They will "reap the whirlwind" in spades …

The Gaza strip will be occupied/liberated by the IDF. Hamas will be like ISIS. Being hunted down until they no long exist being a threat. The IDF already killed 1500 terrorists that crossed into Israel. I doubt very few will make it back to Gaza. Of course, many knew it was a one trip on their way to "Paradise". That place must be filling up even before this attack … They may only get 5 virgins instead of 72 …

As I have said, they and the rest of the Squad need to be censured. They are not leaders but progressive socialist activists. They are not statesmen but poor excuses for politicians. Statesmen get things done … politicians make speeches …

"Jewish Lives Matter" … islamic terrorists … only targets to be serviced …

Did anyone in Congress support Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor ?

BTW Hezbollah and Syria have been firing into Nothern Israel. And Hezbollah may have even made some cross border movements. They may be trying to open a Second Front. I think the IDF can stop them from doing any real damage. Albeit the IDF has lost 2 soldiers to these enemy fires.

I don't know why I still skimmed the fourth page of this thread, because by the third page of threads in this forum at the latest, the number of combatants drops to the usual suspects, the comments become pointless, circular, and serve mostly some US domestic squabbles.
This is fine as far as it goes, everyone has their hobby and this forum is mainly populated by US Americans.
Someone asked for more 'outlandish' voices.
I found that reasonable and raised it.
My voice, that is.
grin

Personally, I think Goldy Meir is still right, that "If the Palestinians lay down their weapons, there will be peace. If the Israelis lay down their weapons, there will be a massacre."
On the other hand, I agree with what people like Moshe Zimmermann, an Israeli historian, who lectured and researched for some time in Germany, have to say about the current Israeli administration.
In an interview with the DLF, a German national public broad-casting radio station:
"A government of amateurs and ideologues", that has failed to protect the Jews from a pogrom in their own country and was surprised by the Hamas attack because of the wrong prioritization of border security and peacekeeping.
For strange reasons he didn't mention revenge and displacement as a first priority.

Thinking about it, Meir and Zimmmermann would probably agree on a lot, especially after she herself was caught off guard in 1973.

Regarding Germany, revenge, and all that.
We were some lucky bastards, being a highly skilled industrial society in the middle of Europe that would be of good use in the Cold War.
Moreover, lessons had also been learned from the consequences of the First World War for Germany.

Sucks to be Palestinian, nobody needs them.
Except, of course, the one or other Islamic state, here and there.

The translation of "ausland" into English is "foreign"; "outlandish" has a somewhat different meaning- although perhaps in this case not wholly mistaken.

Of course, being no native English speaker I do make mistakes, probably a lot.
So I appreciate comments that point this out to me.
Most people are rather reluctant with that, but I see no problem there.

"Egypt intelligence official says Israel ignored repeated warnings of ‘something big'
Cairo official says Israel focused on West Bank instead of Gaza; Egypt's spy chief said to warn PM of ‘terrible operation,' Netanyahu denies it"

link

Arjuna12 Oct 2023 3:36 a.m. PST

And Egypt Intelligence is not the only one critizising the current Israeli administration:

I spoke about all this with Danny Yatom, a former head of Israel's spy agency, Mossad – starting with the attacks on Israel. This is a man whose profession had been to anticipate the worst, to think the unthinkable, but he said over and over how ‘shocked' he was. This was not, however, so much a failure of intelligence as a failure to correctly interpret intelligence and to act on it. There were clear signs that Hamas was planning something. In full view of Israeli drones, they carried out an exercise to attack a mock Israeli settlement they'd built in Gaza. The Israeli army even reported that Hamas forces were gathering near the border fence. But the analysis was that Hamas wanted quiet, not least so that it would get cash from Qatar. So the intelligence chiefs – and the politicians – ignored the evidence. ‘They did not read correctly the intentions of Hamas.'
According to Yatom, the attacks also happened because Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had acted deliberately to build up Hamas so as to weaken the Palestine Liberation Organisation, which rules in the West Bank. Sounding at times almost like Hamdan, Yatom said that Netanyahu wanted to make sure there would never be a Palestinian state, to stop any possibility of negotiations, to annex ‘Judea and Samaria', as Israelis call the land west of the river Jordan. So Netanyahu allowed money for Hamas to be sent to Gaza and he allowed supplies – especially cement – for aid projects that ‘everyone knew' was going to build the infrastructure of Hamas. ‘He wanted to buy silence along the Gaza border… He wanted to buy silence from Hamas.'

Some observations

Obviously I have been following this a lot. Some have said the support for Hamas in the the US is not that large. I agree it is not large, but larger than some believe. I have also noticed (if you see some of my previous posts, they confirm it), the pro Hamas protests seemed to be centered in large cities with many Muslim immigrants and on College campuses. I have also noticed this anti Israel, antisemitic and facist protesters, are coming this time, from the left. This has been confirmed by multiple news sources including those of the MSM. This defers from what the MSM and certain politicians have been telling us the past about antisemitism and fascism being only a right wing issue.

I posts these now, because my belief is as this war progresses, the reporting by the MSM, the world and by many others will change toward sympathy for those in Gaza and start portraying Israel as the villain. The images of Israeli's butchered, raped, burned alive, beheaded and tortured, will disappear and those supporting the Terrorists will be portrayed in a much more positive way.

Some US Colleges disappointment me, as I don't believe anything but one view of the world is being portrayed and students are being brainwashed. Those with Alternative views are shouted down, shunned and abused. If nothing else, maybe this will cause some of them to open their minds up to alternative views. I can only hope.

We are letting our own Constitutional right to freedom of speech distract us from what actually happened in Israel. The news headline is not the Squad, Harvard, etc. They belong on page three. It's not that we shouldn't talk about their differing opinions, it's that we quickly dissolve into only talking about this.

We have been trained to be outraged, become steeped in blamer culture. We took the bait, fear change, politicize everything, believe the real puppet masters in the media who divide us for profit. Theirs is an alternate universe that allows no acknowledgement of others achievements, no evidence that conflicts with the monolithic views they created for the comfort and loyalty of their viewers. No balance of facts. We are dug in behind their walls.

Not one person here has commented on the quick deployment of a major American naval force to the region. Or the various aircraft added to our bases in the region. A-10s – what role would they play in an urban war? Or the impact of the Congressional crisis on the actual events in the Middle East.

But we have mentioned Obama, the Squad, witches, Harvard, an imagined NYC parade of Nazis that includes members of Congress from a certain party. No Hillary? We are steeped in blamer culture – come on man, you gotta mention Hillary!!

No military commander would choose to focus on public opinion or protest at home over his responsibilities as a soldier. We command toy soldiers but sometimes we act like we should be playing with 28mm pundits and miniature newsrooms. Imagine the outrage value for a Sean Hannity verses Rachel Maddow! The ratings markers would be huge!

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP12 Oct 2023 6:41 a.m. PST

Tort right now we are in a softening phase. The Israelis may take days or weeks to ground attack. They may set around and let starvation, thirst and disease do much of their work. Urban warfare is a nightmare.

So what we have now is a group of individuals who somehow, despite the horrible atrocities, are supporting the terrorists barbarism and calling them martyrs. Many of these are supposed to be our brightest and some are politicians in our country. That is important to understand. Especially with upcoming elections. Also it's important to point out that antisemitism and fascism is not restricted to one side or party, as has been portrayed by many in the past few years, but exists on all sides. This in the hope that individuals will not be deluded by reporting and accusations in the future and understand that there is an agenda behind those accusations.

Lastly moving our military into the area is good, but nothing out of the ordinary. It is something we have done under almost every President in the past whenever radical Islamic countries or terrorist, rear their ugly heads. So I don't believe worthy of much comment. Just as is sending supplies to Israel. Again that has always been our norm.

Arjuna12 Oct 2023 6:43 a.m. PST

antisemitism and fascism being only a right wing

Anyone who claims this is simply a liar.
Anti-Semitism as part of the left, especially the radical, revolutionary or anti-imperialist left, is a well-known and documented problem.
It can be found in Marx (!) and Engels as the anti-Semitism of the 19th century bourgeoisie, orchestrated as the state scapegoating practice under Stalin, as the anti-imperialist rhetoric of the bourgois students in the 1970s, in the demented rantings of British socialist Jeremy Corbins, as a simple narrative and outlet for countless poor bastards who have somehow come up short or think they have come up short and follow whatever ideology they happen to have stumbled upon in their imagined or real misery.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP12 Oct 2023 7:16 a.m. PST

You are always a reasoned presenter of views, 35th…. The presence of the USN there may not be only symbolic. There are there to cover the flanks. What do you think the rules of engagement are? Will we go after Hezbollah if they begin a large missile strike?

Same for the other air groups arriving. A-10s for what, exactly? Those are the questions I raised.

But I do question our own priorities on this board sometimes. As you know,I fall into the trap as quickly as anyone. I am not even a liberal on most things, certainly not a left winger. But I hate to see a one sided fight go on over and over.

I see us as a nation failing each other more and more as we try to understand the crazy changes we are dealing with in recent years. If I joined the army today, I might not be very focused wondering if there were radical woke guys on one side of me and closet skin heads on the other. Will we drop the ball when the chips are down? You won't be sure after watching the "news".

So yes there are problems, always. And always, two sides to every story. Let the protests play out. Focus on the hostages, the first critical job. Material support for Israel. Destroy Hamas for good. Deal with the 14th century minds playing with 21st century weapons in Iran. Probably in that order.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP12 Oct 2023 7:18 a.m. PST

Arjuna thank you.

There has been a narrative here (US) recently and it needs to be corrected. Antisemitism , racism and fascism, cross all boundaries, races and political beliefs.

I believe the Palestinians this time may need to read Hosea 8:

"For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind."

This is considered a proverb which states that works have rewards and actions have consequences, especially that people may face negative consequences for their bad actions.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP12 Oct 2023 7:25 a.m. PST

Tort, I believe they are there for Iran, or another major player. I hope that does not happen. I believe the terrorists groups will be left to Israel. Although we might bomb some Syrian terrorists positions, especially if they threaten ours.

I believe Hamas has said they will now not harm foreign hostages. I don't believe that. Besides I think they believe we are nothing but Israel's, so we don't count as foreigners.

I hope that Friday threat is all hot air, but I plan on being alert tomorrow.

I don't think they can starve Hamas out.
When the food runs short, in true North Korean fashion the bosses and their lackeys will still get bountiful servings on their plate. They will happily starve the entire nation and blame it on Israel before they miss a meal themselves.
And the world, or at least a good portion of it, will buy into it and send food.
Even if they have to run the blockade, counting on Israeli humanity to perhaps harass, board and inspect, but not actually sink a food ship.

Careful. Remember what country we live in. Whether we like it or not, they have been elected. Unless they overstep the line, their words may end up being their comeuppance.
I do understand that … However, one member of Congress has been censured and taken off some congressional boards, etc. for lying to Congress and the US population.

The good and bad thing about modern tech is no matter what someone says there is a record of it. In this case I saw this record repeatedly in the media.

The Squad and a few others have repeatedly proven to be Anti-Semitic. By their own words alone. Yes, some are moslem. But … Hypothetically – would Congress accept duly elected members of e.g. some states making openly making negative comments about African-Americans ? Of course not, not today especially, Congressmen Byrd and Wallace are long dead.

So, because e.g.; the Squad and a few others are women [or men] of color, some moslem, all left progressive activists they get a pass. IMO too much of that going around. And everything they said is on record in the media.

Separate but equal in not equal …

Please someone tell me where I am wrong, if I am wrong …

I have nothing against women of color, moslems, etc. but no matter who says something "wrong", etc. if IMO it is wrong it is. E.g.; I am an old[fat] white man, I find many old[fat or otherwise] white men elected or appointed to the US Gov't are idiots, morons, etc. So am I biased against old white men … I think not …

Frankly in this case with e.g. the squad +, give them enough rope and they will hang themselves. Metaphorically of course … We don't hang our politicians … at least not yet !

But we have mentioned Obama, the Squad, witches, Harvard, an imagined NYC parade of Nazis that includes members of Congress from a certain party. No Hillary? We are steeped in blamer culture – come on man, you gotta mention Hillary!!
Yes, Hillary will come on media, IMO saying biased ignorant, etc. things. Freedom of speech is American. Whether it is considered by some stupid, dumb, etc. or not. I still think she hopes they will call her of the bench to run for POTUS. Their bench is not very deep. 🎶"Put me in coach !"🎵

@35thOVI

Being not a Christian, nor a believer in a personal God or a God at all doesn't mean I don't know the Bible.
Actually, I know a lot of religious scriptures from various times and religions.
So, knowing that, I do not cite Romans 12,19 for it is a Christian saying and not a Jewish one.
To do that would be haughty towards the Jews, which is not befitting for a descendant of the German murderers.
So I cite it to a Christian, I presume.

Regarding leftist antisemitism let me remind us that on the other hand David Ben Gurion, the Head of the Jewish Agency was a socialist when he proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948.

Yossef Nachmani wrote in his diaries on April 22, 1948:

At noon I returned to Tiberias and found it pogromed

In large numbers and in groups, the Jews went through the city and looted the houses and stores of the Arabs. This affected me very much. It is so ugly. It stains our flag.

Nachmani, born in Ukraine, was a Jewish member of the city council of Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee and wrote what his soon-to-be fellow citizens of Israel had done to the native inhabitants.

What must be done, must be done.
But it is of utter importance always to remember, everything that has been done can't be undone.

But no MOC have ever been censured (let alone censored) for free speech.
And you're right, some of their retoric has come dangerously close to anti-semitism (or at least ant-Israel, which is not the same thing), but I could find plenty of white male politician comments that come as close to racist, sexist etc – but that's not this topic.

Yes as I said Byrd & Wallace are dead & gone. But some comments still arise. It has nothing to do with international relations, AFAIK.

FWIW – a MOC censure:

Some things I picked up on the media recently :

ISIS flags, etc. were found with/in Hamas locations … A false flag ruse ?

Iran wanted to raise up all moslems to attack Israel. They feared the Arab/moslem countries were going soft on the Jews. E.g. the KSA & Israelis work on a deal.

Hamas leaders in Qatar say all moslems should raise up and attack Israel.

Qatar will not allow extradition of the Hamsa war criminals

IAF has bombed airports in Syria as Iran is sending weapons there then given to Hamas, Hezbollah, islamic jihad, Al Axa Martyrs Bde, etc. etc.

The US Gov't does not have enough evidence to say Iran was involved with this terrorist attack(!?). We you better send in Law & Order SVU, NCIS, Joe Friday, Nick Fury, etc. Seem like to me all the usual suspects. I.e. Iran … I was a half Bleeped text PI 🕵️‍♂️… even I could figure this out !

Again, IMO the US Leadership is playing softball with Iran. What do they think they can do ? Iran will continue to support terrorism and eventually get nukes. They look at us as infidels, they don't have to be honest, forthcoming, etc. We are "Untermensch" … For some reason our leaders think they can talk to and work with them, like they did the Taliban.

Even Iran's Ayatollah said they will use their money as they want. So why won't the US Gov't freeze those funds, put on the tough sanctions on Iran like in the previous POTUS did, etc., etc.

At least our newest best CVN with supporting warship are in the Med off the coast of Israel … As well as and LPD with support in the Straits of Hormuz along an armed CG cutter in the area. US F-15s, F-16s and A-10 are being sent to the area. No word where they are flying out once in that region, but of course that is classified. Does that mean we are going to war ? No, those are deterrents just in case, Iran or anyone else gets "aggressive".

The world is getting more urban. MOUT will/is more prevalent., e.g. Gaza. I don't think the IDF will roll into Gaza guns blazing. They will be careful, measured, systematic, etc. They will run into booby traps, snipers, ambushes, suicide bombers, etc. They know this and they are the best military in the region. They will use MBTs, FA, CAS, drones, etc. in support of dismounted [very motivated] Infantry. Their Spec Ops[and maybe ours?] will be doing what they do. Probably some are in Gaza now ?

This will be a long blood slog. That is what the Hamas etc. wants. Get sympathy for all the Palestinians killed by the IDF. This with be CD, not executions, etc.

The IDF are surgically using air strikes and FA. Many of the structures are still there. This is not the IAF version of "Rolling Thunder". Their priorities are the hostages & eliminating Hamas. Hamas won't let Palestinians leave, Hamas is using them as human shields, like ISIS did. The border crossing into Egypt is closed by Egypt … For a number of reasons.

Just heard a report that the KSA & Iran had 45 min phone call today. Is this bringing the Sunni & Shia closer together ?

Will ISIS in Syria join Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. with an attack from the North ? Will Syria's military get involved in this crossing into Israel? Don't think so … they have their hands full … They only have fired mortars so far into Israel so far …

How many terrorists have crossed our very open Southern Border that were not captured ? Will we see terrorists attacks here again ?

This is what happens with weak, naive', beholden, etc. leadership IMO. And our enemies are taking advantage of this.

Hamas has proven to be medieval butchers … This should seal their fate. Terminated with extreme prejudice, very few prisoners, no survivors … They need to be killed … not interned.

Like ISIS, there is a over 3000 in camps guarded by the Kurds, etc. IIRC. What do we do with These butchers ? Whom Hamas took their barbaric methods from.

"Tlaib and Omar? I must have missed where they are having a major impact on world affairs yet again. In fact I don't know much about them at all. Too busy watching the news from Israel."

Me too, but I'm still not forgetting the squad and others within our country that hold Anti-West, Anti-American views (and yes, they do), especially those in government, FFS.

mjkerner12 Oct 2023 10:21 a.m. PST

And, Has everyone forgotten the 20+ Americans that were killed or taken hostage? US Congresspersons supporting their killers? I can tell from your posts over the years that you are anything but an American hater, Tort :-); so if you think about this "local" issue from that perspective, you'll see where I and others are coming from. USN Strike Group off the flank of Lebanon, great! Get some Hezbollah!

mjkerner +1 Yes, odd their are anti-American activists in Congress. But the is the way it works in a democracy … which a good think, IMO … I think many of us believe they are … well … never mind …

I have no way to know this, but from what we have seen in the past. IDF and possibly US Spec Ops will or are already trying to find those hostages. This is very difficult operation … But both the IDF & US have some of the best Operators on the planet.

@Arjuna

Anti-Semitism as part of the left, especially the radical, revolutionary or anti-imperialist left, is a well-known and documented problem.

Absolutely! The US media in particular, and Leftist/Democrat politicians like Cortez and others are frantically spinning to blame Hamas' actions on "right wing White nationalists."

Antisemitism and support for terrorism is a Left wing thing. Their core drive of revolution against the Capitalist West has made them bedfellows with anti-Western Islamists and other terrorist groups for the last 50 years -- from the Red Brigade to Hamas today. And their ideology is at its core, as you pointed out, racist and antisemitic -- Marx was a notorious racist and hater of Jews.

So ignore all the deflection attempts by the Left to blame others for their own baggage.
