Ah, usage can be so revealing- "the HMS…..". Another millennial Wikipedia special.

That aside, I remember learning this after I first saw the movie, and being touched at the thought that his acting was a portrayal of a man he had seen and known. It's something to watch the actors of that era portraying the men of that era, because modern actors usually seem so self-consciously modern.

An excellent actor who I remember from British films of the '40s and '50s. I saw "STB" in high school and loved it and have continued to enjoy it's solid acting and brilliant model work as times passes.
