It's a diprotodon, a form of giant wombat [now extinct]: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diprotodon

Excellent after action report! I will have to get my hands on Paleo Diet. It might be fun, in a classroom setting, to have the players illustrate their adventure on a "cave wall (black board or construction paper hung along a wall.) Just don't tell the players what anything is now called.The big hairy thing is close enough.
