Let us suppose a quick battle-generator campaign. As I have sometimes seen done, there is a campaign map of little detail. When opposing forces arrive at the same point, there is a battle, and the battle map is taken from an existing stock reflecting the size of the table and nominal ground scale and the general condition of the meeting point – a river, a crossroad, or mountainous terrain, if that's what the campaign map calls for. The table, for these purposes, is square for maximum reusage. So:

How many broad types of temperate zone maps do I need? How many for campaigning in the Middle East/North Africa?

Average result: 7.535

Is it worth pointing out that NO ONE chose eight? There are people who think I need 5-6, and people who think I need 10-12.

If you're coming up on a T intersection and two people say "turn right" and two people say "turn left" please don't go straight.

No sense of adventure?

I've tried pointing out that averaging total numbers in this kind of poll is nonsense, to no effect. I just look at the actual poll if I have any interest to see if there is any useful pattern to be defined.
In this case, is it a real difference, or two different ways of understanding question?

advocate, my guess is two ways of understanding the question--but two ways of looking at the terrain is feasible, and might amount to the same thing. Anyway, I've posted questions asking each group what they feel the terrain types are, which should be informative if anyone responds.

rustymusket, none at all. I treasure the comment of the polar explorer who said "I never had adventures. I could have had them, but I prepared instead."
