Slightly prompted by the "what magazine do you miss" poll, and also by coming across an Ebay completed sale of Stormlord Issue 7 from 1980 (originally £0.40 GBP, sold for £69.00 GBP+postage) I started to reminisce about the mostly D&D fanzines of yore. There are still plenty today of course, and Kickstarter runs a Fanzine month but to be truthful the modern ones are very slick and professional and lack that air of put together with the aid of a dodgy typewriter, glue sticks, scissors and your mate's rubbish artwork….those were the days evil grin

What were people's favourites? Here's a few names to get us going:

Underworld Oracle
Spellbound
Stormlord
Tortured Souls
Demons Blood
News from Bree

I also liked APAs like

Alarums & Excursions
Lion & Lamb Chronicles

I got a bit outof the loop over the years – are there any really good ones in the modern era? Do people still publish them on a monthly/quarterly basis?

I ran across several issues online of the following lately. It's nice to read magazines that were put together by people who enjoyed the game and wanted to produce stuff that wasn't so slick and corporate. It's all Traveller stuff, which is what I like to read about.

Signal-GK
Into the Deep
High Passage
AAB Proceedings

The Wild Hunt
APA from back in the day. (Published at MIT, Alarums & Excursions was CalTech; gaming clubs at both schools were early hubs of D&D gaming. In high school, I would take the subway in to MIT on Saturdays for a day of gaming!)

The wild Hunt rings a bell….

No one pining for Troll Crusher ?

It was quite a reliable read.

Trying to remember a couple that had Gamma World scenarios, which was quite atypical
