"While the 80s were for kids growing up in the 80s, one of the best days of the year was when the Sears or Montgomery Ward Holiday catalog came in the mail. It was a smorgasbord of fun, from brightly colored dolls to wild car tracks to science kits, every kid could find something to wish for. The toys that shaped the children of the 80s may not have always originated in that decade, but they were part of the growing up experience. While the 80s were far from idyllic, there was a lot of free-roaming fun to be had, spending hours with the toys that left a lasting impression on the kids who played with them and generations to follow. Here are some of the most beloved toys kids in the 80s played with, and some that burned bright then faded from the spotlight…."

Im a 60's child and our children were 90's children so this drops in the middle
Interesting that so many items are electronic games, my perception was that this was later as with our children we were spared the fights about screen time.

That reminded me of the time when my 5 year old daughter came into the living room crying her eyes out. She told me her brother (7) was killing her My Little Ponies and their castle. HE was making low level strafing runs with his GI Joe jet followed by a ground assault. Loved the tactics but had to impose the threat of sanctions to end the tragedy. Thank goodness the peace has held for almost 40 years. H

I turned 12 in 1980 so the early half of the decade was still in my wheelhouse.

No GI Joe? No Thundercats? No ROM? No Shogun Warriors?

Yes, electronic doodads were big in the 80s, but not the only thing.
