Howdy,

A few photos from the game at Barrage on Saturday (9/23). Aimed for four players, had five. I believe all had fun!

Swapped up the flanking force from the playtest; the dastardly Sassanids had troops concealed to flank the Byzantines.

Photo 1 – Deployment – Byzantines in foreground

Photo 2 – Byzantine cavalry

Photo 3 – Flanking force

Photo 4 – Infantry battlelines in the center

Photo 5- Byzantine right threatened

Photo 6 – Byzantine right collapses; Sassanid victory!

Now onto Fall-IN!

Introduced an army morale rule – at the end of any turn, where a unit is lost, the army must make a morale check. Loss of light units, does not trigger, and are not counted for the army morale check. Byzantines lost, upon losing three units.

Ponder on,

Perris,

Thanks. The game at Fall-IN is planned for 7pm on Friday.

I believe it will be in the Marrietta Room.

What rules did you use?

Thanks

Mr. Leahy,

So Convenient for Hewing, it's in the subject line for the message. The new, improved Big Battle variant.

Howdy,

The big changes to make it new and improved are:

1) Measuring the movement of units in base widths (using 2 inch wide bases).

Light Horse moves 5/3
Cavalry moves 4/2
Light foot moves 3/2
Foot moves 2/1

The reduced rate is used if a unit changes facing.

2) A couple of additional modifiers on the Quick Reference Sheet (QRS) for the determination rolls.

2a) A modifier for unit weight, and

2b) A modifier if flanks are threatened.

3) Rather than routing based on unit strength, veteran units rout at 4 hits, 3 for warriors, and 2 for green.

Unit strengths are generally the number of figures on one base (WRG basing); this is typically half of what was used in the initial version.

Notes and and the QRS are provided as a PDF in the Facebook group for the rules (search with the name of the rules).
