"Disclaimer: Every single one of these films or television shows is ultimately made for entertainment rather than education. For this reason, one should not expect them to adhere to total historical accuracy at all times, though they can be incredibly useful for showing how American society during different periods dealt with the legacy of the conflict. That said, we strongly recommend that teachers watch each title on their own and make their own judgements on what is appropriate or useful for their classrooms…"

Yep. That is a mistake as "April Morning" was quite good and seemed very relatable to young viewers. I noticed "Revolution" didn't make the cut either (Snark here).

One thing that stands out is the lack of realism in many of these. Except for John Adams, and maybe The Crossing, some of these are too sappy for my taste, and the Patriot is another anti-UK star vehicle for Gibson. That said, we don't have much choice. It's curious that the drama and power of those days doesnt get more treatments.

I used to use the first hour or so of REVOLUTION, which is quite good. After that it is, yes, dreadful.

THE PATRIOT has many good elements, and it can also be a vehicle for a teacher to point out a lot of inaccuracies and myths, as well as the limitations of Hollywood.
