Dressing in character to play D&D must be a 5e thing. Never heard of it until the last few years. Been playing 1e AD&D since 1980, and 2e since 1989… None of my friends, nor I, has ever dressed up to play. Cheers!

Any game is an excuse to dress up. Or at least wear an appropriate hat.
