I agree with all the positives about this book in the review and the comments it attracted on the blog post. It is great to have a book focus on the wars during the period which so many Tudor writers ignore to focus on court life. That said they suffer (IMO) from the insertion of large chunks of contemporary correspondence. On some pages there are only a few lines actually written by the author. I find the period writing style deadly dull and the self-promotion and blame-shifting boring – I tend to drift off and take in very little from these passages and it spoils my enjoyment of what otherwise I think is an excellent book – just wish they were hardbacks (I hate their softback format).
On the colour plates; why have a full page colour photo of a re-enact AND a full page artwork representation (repeated on the cover) of the photo?

BillyNM I think thats fair, the few pages that are mainly correspondence are hard to get through, but there are some gems in their if you can push through the writing style. I actually quite like the softback format, maybe its just what I am used to. Overall happy with the purchase and what i got from the book. Looking forward to volume 3.
