I posted this question on the DR forum, but unfortunately it doesn't appear the author supports DR anymore on there (as opposed to who I believe is the author of Rebels and Patriots…). Anyway, this came up in a LOTR Campaign we're playing using DR. In the campaign rules, I made up an Uruk-hai unit as a Heavy Foot unit that among other things I gave missiles (not an option in the RAW). I used the stats from the Elite Foot Missile option (i.e. Range 18"). In the game we were playing, there were several Light Foot with Mixed Weapons units, which in the RAW gives them a shooting ability with a range of 12". In the DR rules on page 31, it states: Different missiles are effective up to different distances. Maximum missile ranges in Dragon Rampant are: • Foot Missiles: 18" • Scouts, Mounted Missiles, Weighty Projectiles: 12" • Short Range Missiles: 6" We're wondering if the Light Foot missile range of 12" is an error/typo? |

I'd probably go off of Lion Rampant 2 rules which has long ranged units at 18" and short ranged units at 12". Would that work for you? |

I would assume light foot carry less heavy bows etc. hence the limited range. |

You could also look at what the unit is – Heavy foot that can shoot (12) or Archers that can fight in close combat (18). |

The light foot range represents smaller bows, javelins, rocks etc so the range is not a typo. I seem to remember a comment to that effect in the rules somewhere So giving heavy foot serious bows ought to come at a higher points cost John |

Thanks for the responses. If it weren't for Elite Foot, a 6 SP unit, having a missile option that shoots 18", and of course what is written on page 31, specifically Foot Missiles: 18", I don't think I would have thought anything of it. But if a 6 SP foot unit shoots 18", it seems reasonable to me that a 12 SP foot unit would shoot 18", even if it is a "mixture of spears and missiles". It is frustrating the author doesn't support the product anymore, since the question really is if Light Foot shoots 18", are they too powerful for a total of 5 points, even if it does mean losing Wall of Spears. |
