Would that make it a M47 1/2? Just kidding, I remember some car companies years ago did that "1/2" thing.

It was never fielded because it was soon out of US service in favor of the M40 and M60. There was a huge concern that we needed vast numbers of tanks to counter the vast numbers of Soviet tanks. So they looked for ways to upgrade our existing tank fleet.
It was weird and wonderful. The 76mm gun on the Walker Bulldog on the Sheridan was one proposal for example that was never fielded. Or the 105mm gun from the M60 mounted on the M60A2, again never fielded.

Probably M47E1 would be my guess.
