BCW Project and Regimental Wiki are both down at the moment.

Does anyone know how to contact Dave Plant the original creator of the Project?

Any help gratefully received

(Yes, I know that Tim from the Wiki posts here – we've both been trying to contact Dave for a while with no luck; messages via the FB page, email and contact form go unanswered)

Hope you get in contact soon. Good luck!

Hello KYPD

Its a great resource, I've used it a lot in the past few years, especially for Scots and Irish information, so I hope it can be maintained for many years to come.

Well, as I have found a number of times in the past Wayback Machine is a great resource if you want to look at stuff that is no longer current.

A quick visit shows that I can access every entry that I try and get to successfully – New Model, Confederate or Anglo Irish, so looks like the entire Regimental wiki at least is backed up here:

Hope that helps.

Many thanks Kiwi Red One, good to know this great resources is not lost!

Thanks Kiwi Red One, at least it is salvageable, so all is not lost (worst case scenario).

I had a quick look on Wayback this morning and found a lot missing. The link you give seems to be relatively complete, so thank you.

The URL for the project side of the site redirects to GoDaddy, saying that the domain is up for sale.

Hi all,

Tim, lately of the BCW Regimental Wiki, here

****, **** and big *************** **** **** !!!!!

Loosely translated = 'oh dear this is rather inconvenient'

So, thanks all for the support. I'm quite a techno-luddite so if anyone has any ideas if/whether/how this can all be revived please let me know.

The situation is that Dave Plant set up the main BCW Project many years ago now and was kind enough to do the technical bits and bobs to create and host the wiki (Docuwiki) on bcw-project.org. I'm the Admin on the BCW Regimental Wiki but Dave always did the behind-the-scenes technical bits.

Dave stepped back from the BCW Project several years ago and I gave him space, but was always worried about what would happen if the site went down. I don't have recent backups as this was handled by Dave. In the last year or two I've been increasingly concerned about the situation and tried as best I could to track down Dave but with no luck.

What with ancient backups, Wayback Machine and saved info from my files most (but probably not all) of the data still exists. So if the site can't be retrieved, it could be rebuilt. Currently this would be difficult as I don't really have the technical knowhow and I don't have much time to devote to the project due to work and a family illness.

Good ideas greatly appreciated!

Tim

Glad it was of some help KYPD – I find the BCW Wiki very handy for trying to develop some sort of basis of order of battles for some Scots and now Irish based scenarios that I have been developing. You can go into later versions of the BCW regimental wiki on Wayback Machine, but as you say they, along with the main BCW site, are not very complete.

As I'm half a world away there is not much I can do practically as I'm not an IT wizz. Be happy to donate something towards the cost of a restored/new site if it comes to that.

Best of luck with your search for Dave Plant Tim. I hope you
are able to restore contact.

Cheers
Peter

Hi all,

I've tracked down the Web host, so am getting in touch and will hopefully get a response next week.

All possible extremities crossed!

Tim

Thanks for all your efforts Mike and Tim. I use the site often as my go to source. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you!😃

I used the site only a few days ago to help with research on the battle of Stow on the Wold. Finding it has gone is a bit of an emBleeped textance so hopefully it can be resurrected or someone else can take over funding the site fees. Keep us posted on progress, I'm sure many of us are willing to help where we can.

Hi Timbo W,

Did you have any luck with the Web Host?
