"The War of the Roses always has been an interest of mine, but I have not really found a set of Rules that reflect the combat of the period. Recently I had David Knight one of the authors of the new Test of Resolve rules visit and he bought along his rules. We played 8 games over two days plus visited the Mad War chateaux and the battlefield of Saint Aubin du Cormier in Brittany…"

Hmm a bit pricey for all the set.

Rather a skimpy review.

I played it a couple times at Hcon I found those games fun and pretty easy to pick up. One GM thought that they were a Beer and Pretzel set of rules, I did not get a chance to ask him to elaborate. It did strike me that it was pricey and you don't need the cards, but you do, and there also not cheap.

The cards are free in the back of the rule book.

I played at Historicon too. I had such a great time. So much so, I bought the rules (and the fancy cards) and some Perry minis!

I purchased the rules and read through them. They seem fairly simple and straight forward, I don't necessarily think that means they are light on the WotR flavor however. From what I understand the author knows a bit about the subject and I like how he handles longbowmen. They begin the battle by unloading their arrows and when they are done shooting they form up as secondary troops to support the scrum.

I don't have armies yet but I think I will tackle this in 15mm (although Baccus 6mm range is also appealing).

I saw Mark Fastoso did a video or two on these rules. I liked the videos checked into buying the rules. They were not cheap. I just looked again and saw no pdf only bundle. EDIT. Looks like they do have pdf's. Checking it out now!

Thanks

I have the rules for both WoR and HYW. Like the feel of them, but have a problem with the D12, feels like it makes the dice roll much more important than the factors used for combat or fire which are + ~ 1.

To be honest This was not a review, I finally got to look at it.

A proper Review should as an absolute minimum include:

Ground scale.

Figure scale in terms of model scale and representational scale eg. 1 figure represents say 20 men.

Command and control system. At what level and how is deployment restricted as in the real world.

Terrain choosing system and scope of its effects on troops in that type of terrain.

Weapons classification.

A decent review will cover far more than these VERY BASIC topics.
