Wondering what the people in the colonies of the day called this war? For example, how was it referred to in newspapers/journals at the time of the war. What did the French call it? Thanks

I always knew it as the French and Indian WR but know it's a part of the 7YW.
Suspect as a moperiod of a different time said afterwards it was know as the last war until anothercomes up..

In British North America, I generally see it referred to as "the French War" or "the late French War" But that's in retrospect. While wars are under way, they're usually just "the war."

But remember the American tradition of blaming the war on the chief executive and naming it after him--as in "Mr. Madison's War" "Mr. Lincoln's War" and "LBJ's War"--has very deep roots. We'd had, in succession, King William's War (Grand Alliance), Queen Anne's War (Spanish Succession) and King George's War (Austrian Succession.) I think people drew the line at "King George's Second War."

"I think people drew the line at "King George's Second War." "

"The Next King George's War" perhaps? Or possibly,"The ' D---d if I'm paying a penny toward that' War."

There was mixed feeling on that, 42nd. New England had captured Louisburg with provincial troops, ships and money in King George's War and the Brits made them give it all back at the peace, so there was a strong feeling in New England, that this time the British should pick up the tab. Things were a little different in Pennsylvania and Virginia especially, where the provincial governments claimed title to a lot of land the French mistakenly thought was part of New France. Even the Quaker government of Pennsylvania chipped in.

I believe that for some time the war was referred to as The War of Conquest (for obvious reasons) by French-Canadians

I confess I am generally ignorant about King George's War, and have only parochial interest in the WoAS.

The French War.

Late to the party here.

I've come across Rev War period references to it as the Old French War. I presume it was just the French War at the time, but shifted when France became our ally.

On the Canadian side, Guerre de la conquête is obviously post-facto and still used today by the Québécois who are still quite bitter about it all. Only references I've come across from earlier is Quatrième guerre intercoloniale.
