Yes, I clog spray paint caps. Everyone does. I have tried pretty much everything to clean them out, with no luck. I am currently soaking a few examples in lacquer thinner to see if they actually clear out, or if the plastic disintegrates (12 hours now and not problem). It seems there are two main styles of spray caps- they probably cost about 2 cents to make. But all I can find online is graffiti special caps in various spray sizes, and they cost anywhere from .50 to $1. USD They all want ot sell me assortments of different sizes of caps- from fine spray to wide. And I JUST want medium. All I want is to be able to some inexpensive, useable caps (in both styles). I'd be willing to buy a goodly number as I will always end up needing them. Mind you, I have thrown out many, many cans of spray paint due to clogged caps. Maybe that is why they do not sell them cheap. Means more cans sold. I even checked the cheap china mail order places and no luck. Does anyone buy extra spray caps? and if so from where? |

I don't have any recommendation for purchasing, but I have had some luck with long soaking in paint remover and using a very fine drill bit to open the nozzle. If I have an empty aerosol can I always save the cap and drop it in the paint remover for future use. |

A couple ideas. I use Rust-Oleum that I get from Wal-Mart, if it does not work they take it back, no questions asked, often without a receipt. It's great for primer and they have several camouflage colors that I use also. I keep a small square of paper towel soaked in the paint thinner close at hand when spray painting and wipe the nozzle front as I go. Makes a huge difference. About every ten seconds or so, wipe the nozzle, shake the can a bit and continue. Keep the old nozzles that don't clog and re-use them if your next spray can clogs. They don't even have to be the same color, but after a while I have collected a lot of them and usually use the same color as the replacement. Good luck. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

I keep any cap that's still working when the paint runs out. So far I'm ahead. I am very careful to hold the can upside down and spray until it's clear at the end of each session. |

I'm like Robert and keep every old cap. You can also keep caps from other aerosol sprays that might fit your paint cans. I have also returned cans that clog to Lowes. As long as there is clearly paint left in the can, they always replace it. Lastly, there are occasionally clogs that occur prior to the paint getting to the spray nozzle. When this happens, you are just screwed unless you can return it. Kim |

I odo try and save nozzles, but I have yet to really figure out how to properly clear one once it gets clogged. Some places say push a pin in the hole, but I think that just makes it worse. What kills me is that places do sell new nozzles, but they are so complicated in all manner of sizes that I don't want to spend money buying a bunch of really thin or thick patterns just to get 3 or 4 medium ones. Yes, I clog spray paint caps. I don't. I keep a pin in the nozzle except when in use. The pin has to be the correct diameter for the hole in the spray cap. |
