Hello everyone ,
Is there a skirmish rule specific to plains wars?

Several. Yellow Ribbon, Legends of the Old West, Pony Wars, A Good Day to Die etc.

I know all this, I sold them, there are no others, with a figurine for a man?

Han von Stockhausen wrote a Sword and the Flame variant called The Tomahawk and the Flame. It was thoroughly researched and play tested. It's free download here: link

What didn't you like about "A Good Day to Die"?

If I recall correctly, it actually gives serious thought to the concept of counting coup.

I think there were a supplement for skirmish plain wars with Legends of the Old West ruleset.

The Old West Skirmish Rules from the late 70's (a development of the Colonial Skirmish Rules) had all you would need for small skirmishes of a dozen or so figures per side.

The only ones that really did justice to the tribes were Yellow Ribbon and A Good Day to Die. Don't know about the Sword & The Flame variant.

79th asked a good question: what did you not like about those you sold off?

I didn't want a rule with a figurine for 5 men, but a figurine for one man and also "chiaded" that is to say difficult, well-planned, arduous, well made, impeccable, as certain old rules, antique, medieval or second world war…With a ton of weapons and tactics factors, otherwise you might as well play marbles.

The you really should look at Old West Skirmish Rules link

Includes two chapters specific to the Plains Wars.

A Good Day is a 1 to 1 set.

It sounds like you may need to write your own rules, or get better at shooting marbles.

Normally, I don't buy anything without having read it first and I don't know anyone who has it.

However, the playsheets resemble what I'm looking for…

It is on Kindle so you can read the sample free. Should give you a good indication. I played this 50 years ago and enjoyed it.

I bought it, we'll see, it seems usable throughout the 19th century?

The same people wrote a series of skirmish rules including a Colonial Skirmish set and one or two sets set earlier. They are out of print but show up regularly on eBay.

Thanks Italwars1 "colonial Skirmish Wargame" is edited by John Curry?

Is this the same style of regulation as "The Old West Skirmish Wargames: Wargaming Western Gunfights"?

Red Dragon 4411 Sep 2023 4:25 a.m. PST

They are written by the same people and if I remember correctly very similar but they have not been reprinted. There are at least 3 copies on eBay, one at a reasonable price.

John Curry wrote to me:
