Which manufacturer is your favorite?

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Sep 2023 4:48 p.m. PST

Currently it would be Strelets.

Thanks

John

John Leahy is correct that Strelets is the most active and best company making plastic 1/72nd scale figures today.

The best figure set of all time is the Airfix Africa Korps second edition. Filled with lots of excellent poses, great detail.

Zvezda, but I don't know if they are still making figures or have gone over to all scale model vehicles.

Caesar Zvezda, Alliance

It really depends on what you are looking for. Strelets for WSS for sure. HaT is very prolific and sculpts have improved a lot! Italeri and Zevzda equally well sculpted. Revell (of Germany) and (I thought I would never say this) Heller (their US figs blew me away). Preiser perhaps may be the best and in hard plastic. There are now several 20mm producers in Europe making well detailed figs in many periods, but directed towards the diorama making market.I recently bought a couple of US western related kits from IMEX and was impressed from the quality of the sculpts.

I was glad to see re-releases from Airfix. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for the figures I grew up with to be used with Roco Minitanks.

One can always see reviews and pictures from the Plastic Soldier Review webpages.

"Which manufacturer is your favorite?"

All of them.

I liked to collect one of each box they put out. ;-) (Up until 2001.)

Unfortunately, I'm now about 500+ boxes behind (and will never catch up…:-(

Zvezda is excellent, but I think their "big" boxes are going away. I like Strelets, but understand that their casting method precludes re-releases (one use only molds).
Overall, I really don't have a favorite, I just go with what I need.

Zvezda, Caesar, IMEX, Italeri in that order.

I second bobspruster; I look for what I need, mostly at PSR, then buy if I can find the needed items. Manufacturer is not the most important thing for me.

We need a poll.

Ceasar, Pegasus, PSC, Ialeri, Zvezda, HaT, Strelets, Revell, Linear A all have good selections.

Alot of the figures are not compatible. I am working on WWII us and germans. The Italeri is noticable larger than the Pegasus and Ceasar figures. I cannot use them in the same game.

Strelets – best all round if thinking depth of ranges, accessibility, forum and website and the later figures are really good

Zvezda make some of the best figures but they are based in Russia and so currently off limits

Dark Alliance have some excellent quality figures if your into Fantasy

HaT use to be top dog but since being sold off, have lost their innovation and customer focus / interaction

Italeri have some lovely figures eg French Hussars and Dragons

PSR is the place to look and compare, everything you need to know about 1/72nd sets is there
