Taking on the enemy and often each other, Navy and Marine commanders under a remarkable leader—Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz—earned a great victory that was celebrated on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.

A very interesting history of US admirals of WWII but curiously lacking something vital.

The whole premise is; "That artistic liberty ended with the camera. So, when America's military leaders stood for their group portrait at the Japanese surrender on board the USS Missouri (BB-63) on 2 September 1945, the result was somewhat imperfect."

Yet the author does not reproduce that photo which is the subject of many a reference. The topic may well then justify not mentioning the presence of so many Allied officers, whether from the Commonwealth, China, the Netherlands, France etc, as it is based on who was or was not in the photo of US admirals. But no photo….

Said it somewhere else before, but will say it again here: if the U.S. Naval Academy had produced no graduates at all in its one hundred and seventy-eight years of existence, save for Chester Nimitz and Raymond Spruance, the people of the United States would have gotten full value for the money spent on it.
