There's no shortage of Maida reports in the TMP archives. It's a nice small battle, simple terrain, not many troops needed, and an archetypal (stereotypical?) clash of French columns attacking British lines.

Let me do a Tango here and point my fellow TMP-ers to yet another blog report of a Maida game, this time by Colin the Wargamer – two games, in fact, since it is such a small battle that Colin and his opponent Mike managed to swap sides and fight it twice in an evening.

Nice idea to each play different side

I agree it's a nice idea. I think it's a fairly common one; I'm sure plenty of other gamers do the same.

Speaking for our group at OWS, we predominantly play historical scenarios that are all unique tactical puzzles to crack. They usually offer several different ways to win, hence plenty of replay value because there are various different possible plans for both sides. Consequently it's entirely normal for people to want to try a scenario from "both sides of the hill", or indeed to give it a second go after losing to see if a different plan will work better.

It's rare for us to get through a game so quickly we can swap sides and play it twice in an evening, but by no means unprecedented.

Looks like a couple of great games. Don't know if it impacts your rules or not but I think the French may have attacked in lines. It was a long time ago that I saw it, but don't recall the source.

Cheers, Glenn. Yes, I know there's debate about that column or line question, hence why I said 'stereotypical'. Doesn't affect the game, mind – players can do what they like.
