…Where previously Manila may have softly whimpered at China's actions to block its ships, its voice has now soared to a roar, emboldened by support from Washington and its allies…

Good for them.

All the nations in the region need to do the same. The PRC may have the biggest navy. But if all those countries allied with the US if the threat to Taiwan look like it is going t go hot. The "Allied" Navies, Air Forces, etc. may make Xi, etc. think twice … Maybe ?

That's the plan Legion. It's interesting to follow the Japanese navy as they rearm after all this time. The names of the new ships are often the same as their famous counterparts in the WW2 IJN. The strength of their naval tradition is similar to that of the UK and the US.

The Queen Elizabeth battlegroup has also participated. The Indian navy is a growing factor. Australia and France. All told the Allies on paper are stronger than the Chinese, even if you give them the Russians.

Japan also has NK to worry about. These joint exercises are a message to them as well. There are four new US bases building on the north coast of the Philippines, not far from Taiwan. All this annoys Xi greatly.

Xi has to see the strong allied naval & air assets become a major block to his quest to take over the PTO.

Is this really a good thing, given what those motherduckers were up the first half of the past century?

Yes, I think it's okay to give them a break on this, especially considering the threats at their door. They have been a modest defense-only force with strict guidelines for the past 75 years.

But I get what you are saying. A brand new Kaga gives me pause as well. The IJN was loved by the people, it seems there is a resurgence of pride. But we need them and they need us.

I really don't think that we can hold WWIK against the current government. Too many nations count on the US to be their defenders.
