Sorry if this has been already noticed, but after waiting a long time and not hearing anything recently, I stopped by the site, and was delighted to see a large amount of 'stuff.' link Do browse the lot, but click the Cephalids button for the tripods. Lastly, if this WAS announced here, DEEPEST apologies for my missing it. Including to myself! Diyg |

Remember when RP sold miniatures for a reasonable price? |

WOW! I just hope that the Parroom Station range will turn up on Ral Partha Europe. Great ressurection. |

RE prices – I would love to see Old Glory pick up some of these lines. I really appreciate their gamer friendly prices and packaging. |

You guys realize that $15.99 USD today (price for a Martian "Tripod" at the site) is the equivalent of about $5 USD in 1983 "the good old days." A single ERB type Martian foot soldier ($6.50 today) would have been $2. USD I just happened to have Dragon issue #111 handy. Ral Partha ad, with prices, lists single figures at $3.50 USD. So in real dollars, today's Ral Partha is actually cheaper than 40 years ago! Inflation. Making your dollar worth crap since 1776. |

Old Glory 30 figures for $44.00 USD even less with yearly membership. |

Some of the machines are priced decently. The individual figures are not,IMO. I was buying a ton of RP 40 years ago. Rank and file historical and fantasy figures were 50 cents each, while human size unique D&D character figures were around $1.25 USD or $1.50 USD each. |

I agree with 79thPA. I would love to buy loads of the old Tom Meier figs, but $6 USD-7 for one 25mm fig is too much, imo. And the army packs don't give the selection I really want. I find if I'm patient, I can actually buy the original 6 figure packs for less on ebay. |

I just did the CPI inflation calculator. 1.25 in 1983 has a buying power of 3.91 today. Of course different sectors rose at different rates, this is the average. I remember buying RP characters for 89 cents in the late 70s. From 1978, that would be 4.35 today. |

One also needs to consider material costs. In the ‘70s and ‘80s, miniatures were made of lead. Today, they're made of lead-free "white pewter" which consists of tin, antimony, copper, bismuth and possibly silver, depending on the mix. Guess what's gone up in cost, too? We're comparing apples to potatoes at this point; they're not even as similar as two fruits. |

Good grief! A classic and much-missed line is commercially available again, and people are breaking out calculators to figure out whether or not they're happy about it. I've been fending off comments about "wargamers are cheap" for years. I think I'll give up. Inflation calculators are rough general guides, with the Treasury Department having every incentive to low-ball it. Parroom Station was never a cheap line, nor should it have been. Sculpting and making molds for figures compatible with classic SF stories cost as much as Parth's generic Dwarves, and they'll not sell in the same numbers. And it's basically skirmish/RPG stuff. This is rescuing princesses and engaging the chief villain in swordplay. If you want to game 1,000 Tharks thundering down on a thin red (Martian) line, Buy 15's. Is it Black Hat or Black Tree? As far as I'm concerned, Christmas has come early. |

If you are willing to communicate with them via e mail and place a large order I already know that negotiating a lower price is possible. The operative phrase being a "large" order. Ask, the worst that can happen is they say no. These figures have not been available for a while, people should be excited to be able to acquire them again for crying out loud. |

I'm really thrilled for these figures to be available again! |

Okay, give me a sec to get over the giddiness of a post of mine not proving totally brain-dead… Cheap? It's been YEARS since I've been comfortable with paying full price for anything. Do I look like a schmuck? Don't answer that! Even though they are merely small walkers, the tripods for sixteen beans DO seem quite reasonable. As for 15/18mm's, Black Hat's Martian Empires line is now part of Fighting 15's line, Highland Studios, last time I looked, had some of the re-sculpted Space 1889 figs, and I still think some fantasy elves lines match many humanoid Martian, though I think we can thank Bob Murch for that, right? I know there was something else, but it's gone clear out my head. Doug PS Oh, I know: If you DO buy, tell 'em I sent you. Won't know me from Adam, but warms the cockles of my black heart. |
