I use a very old suggested rule set I found in UK Empire based series of booklets by a small society of UK Empire Player based, I think, in the North of England. The cover of the booklets where yellow as I recall. Can anyone else in UK remember that far back. Think we are back in the days of Empire III (The good old days!). In practise I give it a couple of turns a side and then use unformed charges. Any thoughts on all the above? Cheers |

Soften them up with spherical case – makes lots of overhead splinters. Winkle them out with grenadiers in open order – bayonets fixed. Welcome them as they exit the wood with a couple of guns loaded with canister. |

Wargamers always have the advantage over real generals here: They can see, with their eye in the sky, what's actually in there. |

Wargamers always have the advantage over real generals here: They can see, with their eye in the sky, what's actually in there. Yes, when we play with hidden movement and LOS restrictions, any efforts to 'clear' a woods is more of a gradual process, often feeding more troops in so what is 'actually there' isn't really known. Skirmishers become far more important with hidden movement and tactics change. Otherwise, I would say the process is dependent on the rules played. |
