You were asked – TMP link Which minor nation had the biggest impact on the war relative to its population? 55% said "Finland" 13% said "Canada" 12% said "Australia" |

Maybe Russia just punched below its weight in Finland. But Finland did teach them a lesson and prepared them for war with Germany. Wolfhag |

Good point – I would note that based on population sizes, Australia and Canada came in pretty close in terms of raising troops but the Finns did beat the Russians to a pulp in the Winter War, which should have been a classic one-sided contest |

but the Finns did beat the Russians to a pulp in the Winter War, which should have been a classic one-sided contest Finland lost The Winter War. Lost it badly. It also also lost in 1944 when it decided to back-stab Germany and make a deal with The Soviets. |

Agree. Finland is interesting, but not as significant as Canada. But a poll is a poll. Frank Chadwick told a story about a British officer who was teasing an American officer and said the Americans always solved tactical problems with huge amounts of firepower. The American officer responded by saying "We have to, we don't have any Canadians…" |

"…back-stab Germany…" What a delicate way to put it. My heart bleeds for the Huns. You should 'bleed' more for the Soviet POWs that Finland deliberately allowed to starve to death in order to keep its own people fed. |

"You should 'bleed' more for the Soviet POWs that Finland deliberately allowed to starve to death in order to keep its own people fed." They made the right choice. |

The Finns were quite actively engaged in ethnic cleansing in the territories under their control. All non-Finnish (and not related to Finns) population by nationality was placed in concentration camps (we are talking about civilians, mostly women and children during this period), where a fifth of them died from hunger, cold and disease. link

I would not weigh Finland above Canada or any such. |

I wonder why the Seminole nation vs the United States did not make the list. Or Texicans vs Mexico? |
