I just finished this short novel by French science fiction pioneer Jules Lermina. The novel was serialized around 1910 before being published in book form in 1913. I enjoyed this ripping yarn that starts with the strange death of an English boxer whose body is discovered impaled on the fence guarding the Obelisk which results in the discovery of a lost world underneath the city. It is an entertaining piece of weird fiction that predates WW1. There is an eclectic variety of prehistoric animals that end up roaming the streets. These include Brontosaurus, iguanodon, a flying reptile, Mammoth, Mastodon, Megatherium. The sizes are exaggerated and note that most of the animals are herbivores.
