Was there a mid air crash with a surface to air missile? Maybe he made a mistake and flew "Lao Che Freight". It happened before, somewhere in India I believe to a Mr. Jones. |

So let me get this straight. A Russian SAM in Russia shoots down a Russian civilian transport near Moscow- nowhere near Ukraine. Either this was a deliberate shootdown or someone messed up so bad it is well beyond belief. |
BattlerBritain | 23 Aug 2023 12:30 p.m. PST |
Yeah that didn't crash. That was coming down like a rammed Dornier17Z over London. |
Herkybird | 23 Aug 2023 12:33 p.m. PST |

I can imagine the explanation! It was a a terrible tragedy our panicking 18-year-old conscript fired off a missile at what he thought was a Ukrainian drone attack. Look at what the Iranians did to Canadian airline PS752, these things happen a regrettable incident. My bet money is on an assassination but by who? Putin? Shoigu? some other player? |

Well let's see how the next few days play out. He was a vile war criminal who deserves everything he gets- whoever gives it to him. Yet, at least he did just before his attempted coup tell the russian people (those who bothered to listen), some important truths about russian aggression against Ukraine: - Ukraine was never full of NATO forces - Ukraine was never dominated by Nazis - Ukraine was never planning to attack russia - russian and russians had all been lied to from the start. In fairness, he probably spoke those truths in a hissy-fit of pique, but they were truths nevertheless, a lot more honesty than you would ever get from the maggots in the kremlin and russian mod. But a horrible person who deserves no sympathy, whether he's now dead or that's yet to come. |

If I were a dictator of a country at war, I'm not sure I'd be OK with assassinating the leader of a mercenary paramilitary force when hundreds/thousands of their number are bouncing around loose, unaccounted for, God only knows where. Putin has now motivated a brutal, vicious, cunning bunch of throat cutters to heaven only knows what. Iff'n I was a Wagner type who'd slid off the radar and learned that Putin had snuffed my old boss, I'd be seriously thinking about getting some payback. Nothing too direct. Maybe open season on Security Forces. |

Yeah. A crash. Planes do that when riddled with AAA holes. |
Tortorella | 23 Aug 2023 4:10 p.m. PST |
Putin may take over Wagner by giving them a bunch of cash and goodies, easy to do with guys on loan from prison, or disband it and make any unhappy fighters disappear. IMO these guys were not fighting for a cause or a leader, just themselves. |

Imagine coming this close to overthrowing your own government and then pretending everything is fine! What audacity! I would venture to guess that anyone having anything to do with Wagner is wondering where to go, esp the commanders. The rank and file will be formed into penal units to assist with mine clearing. |

You can't make this stuff up. A nation state with the world's largest nuclear stockpile being run like a third rate mafia family is on one hand poor comic opera yet terrifying to think that goon squad is really a serious threat to civilization. |

" third rate mafia family" This does look like Putin and company took their playbook from the Godfather series. |

Did they confirm his 2IC was also on-board? According to Denys Davidov's vlog today, Utkin AKA Wagner was also on board. And Chekalov. … it was missing a wing, so wouldn't rule out an actual accident… Denys says that an internal explosion at altitude would have blown up the fuselage, but the video shows the fuselage intact and a wing missing. Witnesses report two explosions, probably two S-300s. |

Did He Died?
Ah, just kidding. On a more serious note, I'm more interested in Prighozin's motivations for continuing to stay near that pit of Kremlin snakes. Death-defying/-wishing Wagnerian heroic realism, simple stupidity, or that rampant delusion of invulnerable grandiosity in which those Russian opera buffoons of all ranks have indulged themselves lately? There is a German term, "Operettendiktatur", operetta dictatorship that fits this phenomenon very well. Oh, and yes, is there a local sales representative from PMC Wagner who can cheer up the audience in this sad hour? Who will take over the business in Africa? |

Witnesses report two explosions, probably two S-300s. Did they see two explosions, or did they hear two loud explosion-like sounds? If it was two sounds, the first could have been from the missile launch and the second from explosion. As for Arjuna's opera references, I am at the moment starting to think of "Götterdämmerung". |

As for possible narratives, a former Russian member of the federal parliament (Duma) interviewed on BBC World Service yesterday suggested that the downing of the aeroplane could have been an act of "Ukrainian terrorism", though without any evidence to back the claims. It sounds a bit unlikely that the Ukrainian intelligence services would have been able to pull out an operation like this. And even if they could, I would presume that they would have selected a more important target than Prigozhin – and even though Ukrainians probably don't like him, they should have preceived him as a thorn in Kremlin's skin. That said, as an explanation it would conveniently get rid of Prigozhin, while finding a convenient scapegoat. Of course, the authorities might just decide that the official explanation is a highly unlikely technical problem that caused the plane to fall apart mid-flight. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 24 Aug 2023 4:34 a.m. PST |
The Russian's seem to alleging that the plane illegitimately turned off its transponders and was mistaken for a drone… Last I heard the official Russian position was 8 bodies from 10 listed individuals on the flight. Also a second flight returned to the airport and those aboard allegedly arrested. |
Griefbringer | 24 Aug 2023 5:01 a.m. PST |
The Russian's seem to alleging that the plane illegitimately turned off its transponders and was mistaken for a drone… It would have been quite high flying drone, based on the reports about the flight level (around 8.5 km?). Last I heard the official Russian position was 8 bodies from 10 listed individuals on the flight. That was a while ago, later it was announced that all 10 bodies had been recovered. Badly burned, however, since the plane caught fire on impact. |

North Korea is more of a theocracy… That family "Dynasty" is worshiped like they are "Gods". Of course, 40% of them are starving, living in substandard conditions, etc. And they have gulags/death camps that rival anything we have seen in WWII. Some of the North Korean soldiers had parasites, like worms, etc. When captured escaping the North. If the North fell, like e.g. East Germany. It might almost bankrupt the South bring them into the 21st Century or even the 20th. Don't worry, I am sure the investigation will clear things up. Yep, we'll get the truth from Putin and his BBFs. They are well known for this … |

I believe the investigation will reveal the aircraft accidentally fell out of a window. They might also decide to find out that a window accidentally fell out of the plane. When travelling at 28 000 feet that can lead to some dangerous consequences. |
Arjuna | 25 Aug 2023 3:41 a.m. PST |
They might also decide to find out that a window accidentally fell out of the plane Considering the rumors about the state of private avionics in Russia lately that might even be believable. Not to mention the fact that Mr. Putin and his cronies would display a kind of disturbing humor. The kind of humor attributed to Third World dictators of the 1970s, Mexican cartel bosses, and failed state warlords. |

On other news: - Putin has publicly expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the plane crash. - Official Kremlin spokesman has publicly denied that the Kremlin leadership had anything to do with the crash. - There are claims that Prigozhin had very recently returned to Russia from a trip to Africa. Also recently a video of him was released where he claimed to be (at the time) in Africa. |
