So just to give a different flavour to my 28mm play I have a couple of platoons that I have done up as African nations or third world troops.

One platoon of Kenyans with G3s and Isreali helmets in their very british dpm stye.

I have another platoon in French CCE woodland cam with AKs and PASGT helmets. These guys are actua;;y pretty useful for any ex-french colony.

I even have a platoon with FN SLRs and PASGT helmets I painted up as Brazilians in lizaed cam. This was actually kind of neat to me because I painted them up in four different skin tones.

BUT, I have one more platoon of figures with AKs and PASGT helemets and am at a loss on a different style of cam to do them in. The heads are very definitely african heads.

So does anyone have any suggestions of what is all the rage in cam patterns for african troops???

Looking at camopedia at some of the countries of west africa, it looks like anything goes, but let's be honest I am not that good of a painter so the simpler the better.

So, do you have a favourite cam type?
(that is paintable…)

I also have a good company size force of ISIS that can double easily for Boko Harem so all the south saharan and west african forces are good to look at the cam patterns.

Perhaps the Rhodesia African Rifles style.

Many of the African country's military have a mixture of US woodlands and French uniforms mixed in the same battalions. Some just wear plain old OD green fatigues. That is firsthand info observed as of 2009 for countries like Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Gabon, Ethiopia and others.

So really, any of those would be accurate up to that date-and probably still the same today. I, personally, liked the slanted pockets of the French Tunics. Accessing anything contained in the pockets was easier to access than our US versions.

What about that USMC WW2 style camo pattern they used on helmet covers and some utilities?

I already do have a platoon of figures in woodland or the french equivalent of CCE. I do quite like them but on the tabletop the difference between them is indistinguishable.

I like the old Rhdesian cam pattern but think it is too distiinct of a one off for what I am thinking. I really want something different from what I already have and can be used pretty generically as a number of either African Union or West African Community type troops on all their various contributions.

Surprisingly, I never thought of the standard olive green.

Thanks Ritter, I have perused that thread endlessly.
Did you check lout the neon brilliant green of the uniform of the Ghana Ambulance Service? How about all those blue pixellated cams too? Too law enforcement a vibe? Anyone else had to take a second look at the Zambian customs enforcement uniforms???

Niger has a pretty cool cam for the presidential guard. Green stripes over a tan-yellowish base. Maybe a Japanese uniform base with over striping dark green, that would also give me my olive green looking group too.

But the French/Portuguese lizard pattern followed by MARPAt seem to be pretty popular too.

Yes, I too was thinking of the French Lizard pattern.
