Outrage SELLS. Pandering, virtue signalling to the demographic that buys your paper/ watches your show/ clicks on your site SELLS. It seems that the US media thrives on polarising one tribe against the other and in the UK we're not far behind these days. |

As long as a population insist they "Know" better then the simple facts and is happy to believe the most absurd conspiracies, you can get them to try anything (Jan 6th) particularly if you have a propaganda machines masquerading as news organizations. |

"If it bleeds it leads" is an old saying. But what SORT of outrage, and sells to whom? The reality today is that both sides have their own press and simply do not believe nor trust the other side's. Mutually reenforcing paranoias and threats of violence. We've been here at least twice before: 1790s: Jefferson is a Jacobin and John Adams a secret monarchist. And we were not far from one party using government power to crush its opponents, in 1798. Alien and Seditions Acts and the army. Ditto 1850s and war actually came. |

dapeters what about when the government insist it knows better? Removes rights and states that what they tell you is true and what you see with your own eyes and the views you hold are no longer relevant. |
