Started an ambitious project: the campaign of 1809 using Kevin Zucker old game from cyberboard. An ongoing process with no doubt trials and errors. The first significant battle is now on my site. Played with 18mm minis, my rules, scale 1"=90m; one "unit" average 6-800 horse and 1000 foot (one mini for 80-90 men).

Nice commentary on the use of maps. One thing I would say is that when planning a march, at least, any maps of the period would be quite non-specific. If a general decides to defend at a specific point, and doesn't like the ground when he sees it, I'd allow them to deploy further back – but not forward. Unless, of course, they've had time to look around, like Wellington in Belgium.
