Yes, thanks for posting, Armand. It is a useful primary source for detailed army lists and terrain descriptions for the Battle of Charasiab, the attacks on Kabul's Sherpur Cantonments, the Battle of Ahmed Khel, Roberts' Kabul-to-Kandahar march, and the Battle of Kandahar AKA: battle of Baba Wali. It also provides something of the British perspective on the second part of the war, following the attack on the British embassy in Kabul that wiped out Major Cavagnari and his escort. I don't refer to is as a "massacre" since the handful of embassy staff and their Guides escort held out for some time and took a lot of the their attackers with them. Unfortunately it looks like the various battle maps were not unfolded to be photographed for this digital edition, which sadly is sometimes the case, but the descriptions are still very useful and if someone is interested enough they may be able to search around online and find another copy complete with full views of the fold-out maps. |
