I feel good because I've been finishing off some of those projects that hung around my workbench forever.

For example, an ironclad that I fussed over too much, trying to get it just right.

So as the final stage, it needs a base. And when it comes to painting the base, I need that particular color of paint, the one that I've decided represents all waterways in the world. Now, where did I put it?

It's not one of the two rows of paints on my workbench, meaning I haven't used it recently.

It's not on the shelf where paints go until I put them away, either.

Now, I remember it's a craft paint, it's blue (duh!), maybe has Prussian in the name… Years ago, my wife gave me her wooden paint rack when she upgraded, and that's where most of my craft paints go (the ones which will fit).

None of them look like the right color.

For some reason, I'm suddenly inspired to do a 'paint inventory' of all my blue craft paints. The blues are already grouped together, so it's not hard to run through the dozen or so paints and find out which ones are goners: clean the dried paint off, shake them up, squeeze out a drop, does it look good? Two dried-up paints (Aleene's brand are dying rapidly now), and one that refuses to mix into paint (why do I need blue glitter paint anyway?).

Now I've gone through all my blue craft paints. Still haven't found the required color.

Just as I am toying with trying to mix up the desired hue, I look at my workbench again, and there – on the third row – is the paint I'm looking for! It's not Prussian, it's Military Blue! (Since when is there a third row of paints on my workbench?)

Paint found. Now I can proceed. grin

Blue glitter paint is absolutely required for Elsa's army from Frozen III (when/if that comes out).

Definitely blue for bases for riverine craft. I flew over the rivers of the American South, and they are a slightly greenish brown, but when I've tried painting bases for Civil War ships, I find this makes them look like they've run aground on a sand bar. So, blue it is. Military blue? I'll have to give that a try.

I have had the same exact quandary, trying to match blue for naval bases. Bill, what scale ironclad?

Grelber, decades ago I painted up old Houston's ACW ironclads and based them on hexes for Hammerin' Iron. After photographic research of the Mississippi, I based them on wet looking brown bases. I even had a matching brown satin sheet for the river. Despite "looking right", it still looked like ships were cruising in liquid chocolate. I abandoned the project.

The Rule is: The thing you are looking for is always within one arm length of where you remember it last.

Bill, what scale ironclad?

1:600 scale.

Just remember Bill, everything you're looking for is ALWAYS in the last place you look!
