Does anyone know of sites or books that give a listing of the troops envolved (British/Commonwealth vs. Japanese)and and overview of the engagement from the the Slim River, Malaya, Jan. '42? Thanks. |

Start with the official history: The War Against Japan, Volume 1, The Loss of Singapore by Maj-Gen S. Woodburn Kirby and Others Then read: Moon Over Malaya by Jonathon Moffatt and Audrey Holmes-McCormick. Then, for the Japanese point of view, read: Japan's Greatest Victory, Britain's Worst Defeat by Col Masanobu Tsuji For more OB's info, search the web for Percival's "Operations of Malaya Command". That will give some of the OB and background detail you need to back up the other books, but don't treat it as an official history. Nearly all other non-autobiographical books about the campaign use the above as the basis for their descriptions of Slim River. SirG |

The National Army Museum (UK) have a useful pamphlet giving the campaign from the viewpoint of the Leicester and Surrey battalions that were combined into the British battalion. |

The official history by Woodburn is the best first reference. Moon Over Malaya gives a good tactical account from the point of view of the Argylls. If you can't get hold of the official history, then try Alan Warren's – Singapore 1942 – which is a good military history of the whole campaign. |
