Work continues to plug gaps in the age of sail collection of 1:700 model ships with the recent addition of some much needed fourth rates, two British and one Dutch.

As I illustrate in the post, these vessels were neither suited to taking their place in the line of battle or acting in the role of a cruiser, finding their inadequacies only emphasised by developments in warship design by the 1790's and yet they were still in many nations orders of battle, with several examples of them acting in both roles.

Fantastic write up and models. Napoleonic sailing warfare has been long admired but feeling way to late to get into no matter how much reading on it I do.

Hi and thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the read.

Never say never, there's never been a better time to get into the age of sail, now with the Warlord range and the 3D offerings available and I'm keen to help others interested in putting a collection of these models, small or large, together, so you will find modelling and rigging tutorials on the blog with links to videos on YouTube to better explain the techniques I use.

All the best

Great models. Meticulous paint work. I sure hope you get to use them often.

Napoleonic Wargammer very recently was working on printed ships, I have 3 left of homemade ships from nearly 40 years ago but they look like hulks but thinking a land game to capture them is all they might see of a game

Even more expertly modeled ships. Love to see them in action.

Carojon if you haven't heard the Napoleonic Quarterly podcast there are some good episodes on Napoleonic era navy episodes.
