For most models, my painting process ends with the unit being flocked, sealed with matte clear, FlexSteel added, and then put away.
With the advantage of experience, I have added one more step after the sealcoat – the Final Check.
For example, I have a unit of 15mm cavalry that went through Final Check tonight. Some of the things I caught:
1. The flock has supposedly been fixed in place by the clearcoat, so now I can remove any stray bits of flock. My goodness, how did that horse's tail get flocked???
2. Somehow, there's a bright white dot in the middle of one of my bases. Next to a horse's hoof. Middle horse on the stand. Took me a while to figure out what angle I needed to get my brush on that spot and dab it muddy brown.
3. Aha, one of the riders is half-glued, still attached but wiggling. So I break him loose and re-glue him.
4. I color-code the base sides to help players know which troops go with which army. Somehow, I managed to color-code with the right color… but two different shades. Quick touch-up.
Done!
