For all those who fondly recall the early days of miniature wargaming, Little Wars TV has posted a great interview with Dick Bryant – one of the real life pioneers of miniature wargaming here in the USA, a "Wally's Basement" co-founder of HMGS, founder and editor of "The Courier (still IMO the best miniature wargaming magazines ever printed), not to mention co-founder and guiding light of New England Wargamers' Assn for several decades.

I still have an almost complete set of "The Courier" magazine from almost the very first issue. Thanks for the post of the interview.

Hi ColCampbell,
It's entirely possible that I might have stapled some of those Couriers that you have.

My esteem for Dick continues to grow with age. I consider myself indeed fortunate to have known him. He is a special man.

He is indeed one of the great people in the hobby. I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times.

A man who contributed much to the hobby, though age distorts my perspective. I keep hearing a line from a novel, and I can't place it. Something to the effect that "we were very young then, and I didn't know who I was supposed to be impressed by."

Thanks very much for posting the link.

Having met Dick, and gaming with him on several occasions I can say that he is truly one of the greats in the hobby. He is a great guy any way you look at it.

Gamed with him a couple of times in Mass – a true gaming gentleman

Ditto Dye4minis. Always enjoyed the Courier and the adventures of Gluteus Maximus.

Yes, caught that Little Wars TV interview the other day and enjoyed it immensely.

So glad one of the Giants of our mad hobby gave us the chance to hear him continue to enlighten us.

Regarding Dick's generalship, he also had a WRG Ancients Egyptian Army which he would command under the name of "Neosynephrine". Look it up if you don't get the joke.

Another Dick Bryant war story – Dick probably holds the "Column, Line & Square" (old Napoleonics rules) record for routing British Guard battalions under his command. It was really remarkable how often he accomplished that feat; it wasn't easy to do.

LOL!

Thank you for posting this interview. As soon as I discovered
the "Courier" it was a feature in my gaming until its' sad demise. Very happy to see that Dick is alive, well and still gaming!

Known Dick long time. First time I saw him (and Leo!)
was a little get together in NJ. Dick was playing in
a Fantasy game (Battle of Pelenor Fields IIRC)

Ribbed him a lot over the years 'bput that.

Hi Ed,
Been ages! I trust you are keeping well.

Little Wars needs to come down to Raleigh and interview you as well!
