Another short novel by J-H,Rosny Aisne. This tale, published in 1930, involves a pair of sisters, Amhao and Glava that flee a brutal tribe called the Tzohs by stealing a dugout canoe. The Tzohs, though advanced to some degree, they are at an early stage of copper metallurgy, practice human sacrifice to appease spirits. One of the sisters has been selected for sacrifice which is the cause of their flight. Meanwhile, the Tzohs have attacked the people of the Blue River while most of that folk's warriors have gone off hunting. The savage Tzohs massacre the elderly and children and carry off the young women of the Blue River folk. Helvgor, a powerful warrior of the Blue River, sets off in pursuit o the Tzohs accompanied by a youth, two dogs and a tame wolf. Helvgor and his party meet up with the fugitive sisters and much adventure unfolds. All things considered, an excellent story and a fine translation by Brian Stableford.

About $23 USD on Amazon. Kindle is cheaper, for people who have that.
