Has anyone ordered molds from Dunken recently? I put in an order three months ago and only received payment acknowlegement. I'm a patient man so have no real problem if circumstances dictate a long wait, but I wouls like to know if this is normal for them.

Apparently there was a mix-up but now all is well. Due to receive my order soon. I'm psyched, because they have many more molds I want.

Care to share what you bought? I had several sets of their 25mm fantasy molds. Great, loved casting my own figures.

I play wargames with plastic Army Men figures, which are cheap, but the Dunken 54mm molds, to make them out of metal, still tugs at me. Too expensive, but still, the yearn and the desire is there! I would use pure, throw-away, lead tire weights from local tire and mechanic shops, if I went into casting 54mm WW II figures using Dunken molds.

Whatever you bought into, I would love to see what you are doing with them. Cheers!

I'm focusing on the Zulu wars 54mm. The two multi-mold sets are back-ordered at the moment, but I can proceed with what I have for now. Dunken came through nicely for me. It's a nice break from Prince August SYW. I'm kinda hooked. I'll post a couple of pictures here once I've done some casting using the Dunken molds.

Awesome!

I tried using lead, but the casting results were poorer: hard to get the metal to flow into the extremities of the molds. I tried 100% Model Metal, and the castings were done with far fewer missing bits. Unfortunately, pure lead does not work the best for gravity castings in 25mm scale. Hoping lead will work better in larger scale molds. Good luck! Cheers!

Sgt Slag, for better results add tin and bismuth to your lead. I use an alloy nearly identical to model metal that works great.

I sold my molds, and my melting tool, in the mid-2000's. Been out of it since then.

My dream was to use lead tire weights, from local auto repair shops, to cast miniatures. Tried some purchased lead, first, from local fishing supply stores, to see how well lead worked. Water under my bridge, now.

I hope your advice will serve others getting into gravity casting. Cheers!

Ah, didn't realize you got out of it. I'm retiring in April and will then order a spincasting machine. I plan on making molds from 3D resin printed masters (for the Zulu project) as well as some modified PA Swedes for especially Russian troops for my Great Northern War project. Great fun.
