Thank goodness for Troopwo's contributions as this forum has been very quiet of late. Two more images to show both conversion work, which I really enjoy also and comparisons of figures from different ranges, which folk are always asking for.

He will tell us more about the content and I think more to come.

Top picture is my initial attempt to figure out what to do for CIDG or Strikers as all the SF Camp troops were called.

Left to Right are figure one a Gringos 40 ARVN with helmet and M16 for comparison.

Figures two and three are Black tree dsign US army troops with carbines from their WW2 range. They have had their heads cut off, drilled out and replaced by the baseball style fatigue caps from Eureka Miniatures SWAT range of body parts.

Figures five and six are again Black Tree Designs WW2 US Army with carbines again with the head convesions to jungle hats. The heads and hats for this lot were from both S&S Models who did some modern 28mm vehicle crews, gunners and artillery crew with the choice of heads. There are also some heads and hats from what used to be Dadi And Piambo modern Italian range. I think the company was taken over by Jerwood Miniatures.

The joy of these convesions are the second war belts, kit and weapons as well as the size is ok. The biggest bonus is the ability to kit these guys out with mostly carbines and a BAR and either a Thompson or Grease Gun and even an M79 per section, and for a camp defence with heavier weapons like air cooled M1919 machine guns, Bazookas, 60mm and 81mm mortars, recoilless rifles and such.

All that surplus webbing, kit , pouches and odd haversack and shovel are good things as these guys would often be sent on company sized patrols for three to seven days around their camps, often even digging in shell scrapes for the night.

I have converted an oversized platoon of each and all kinds of support weapons. Painting options are any colour of surplus clothes found in the sixties from tans and khakis to olive drab and faded jungle greens as well as any assortment of camoflage from the various duck hunter pattterns to tiger stripe. The limit to these guys is really your imagination.

I was thinking of doing another mob with heads from Empress with the Indochina french and Viet jungle hats styles too.

The bottom picture is a line up from left to right of one and two Empress, three and four are Gringos 40s and five and six are Baker company, all ARVN in helmet with M16s.

Height wise, tallest to shortest are Gringos, Baker and then Empress. Sculpting wise, the webbing and pouches between Gringos and Baker might be a better mix for putting them into the same units. I also find the same for the girth and heights in general. There is more of a bulk to the detail that a half blind guy like me can just paint and depend on the paint to fill in and roll over all the details.

The empress are fine sculpts, but as a guy with vision problems, I can not take advatage of the fineness of the details as well.

I do have over two hundred odd ARVN regular troops with a platoon of the Empress, two of the Baker and another two of the Gringos with M16 and anther platoon of the Gringos qwith carbines and BAR and the older kit too.

Thanks for posting these side by side pictures. The telling thing for me is the size of the M-16. While I have quite a bit of fondness (and painted figures) for Baker Company, I'm of the opinion that they never actually held an M-16/AR-15 before doing the figures.

That is always a tough compromise.

Exaggerating a sculpt or not making it to exacting scale dimensions can help a lot in casting or to get the look desired. Anything that helps me to make it easier to paint is a bonus.

I have carried the rifle for enough years in service and it doesn't really bother me too much. The overall look is good.

The baseball hat idea is great. Head swaps create something totally unique (until you inspire everyone to copy you of course).

We simply must see your painted work. Close ups like this or en masse if you think not up to it.
