Hi guys,

I've just about finished my Spanish army, and with well over 2,600 men for the whole Peninsular War collection painted and ready for action, I thought it was about time I did something special with them.

Consequently, I've set up a four player (umpireless) Peninsular War Wargames Campaign.

Some notes on the set up can be found here. Also the link for the map is here.

As usual, as soon as it's had a few turns played through to iron out the bugs, I'll make the rules, cards and everything else I've written for the campaign available on request.

What rules will you use for the games? I ask because you had been looking at 'Soldiers of Napoleon', which I tried but wasn't convinced by.

We'll be using a home grown version of Piquet.

SoN has some good ideas (worth buying for those, I thought) but I think the game itself is sluggish, the skirmishers do all the work, and it's only for small one on one games with say, less than 16 units a side on a 6x4 table. The multi-player rules are, let's be frank, bolt on claptrap. Games here, as you know, are often much bigger.

I might play them again for a small game and a change of pace but, definitely not a go to set.

Looks very interesting, @olicana – is that a version of classic PK or Field of Battle?

It's mostly classic with a bit of FoB but, you don't pay to reload and command groups work differently when it comes to initiative cost for movement. Plus new movement, 'major morale', skirmish rules, etc. In fact, it's pretty different all round.

All done on 4 pages of A4. Drop me an email (address on blog) and I'll send you a copy to look at. If you know how piquet works it will be easy to follow – otherwise completely not.
