…a Side Hustle.

"I like my hobbies and I have a lot of them. At some point, I thought: why can't I just do my hobbies instead of my job? You have probably had the same thought. Well, I actually turned my hobby into a side hustle and then into my actual job.

In this article, I share my insights about how to earn money from your hobby. While I have not done all of the things listed here, I have at least seriously considered making it part of my business portfolio (so I have researched what it would take and whether or not it would be profitable)…"

There is a truism that goes "find something that you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life."

Bull funky…

The truth is that the easiest way to learn to hate something you love is to be required to do it. I give you marriage.

Find something that you can do effortlessly that people value whether you enjoy it or not. Crank out enough to live comfortably then stop. Don't oversatueate the market. Do as little as you must, then put your feet up.

If you can make your hobby work for you without growing to despise it, more power to you, but I think you're off your nut.

I have hobbies so I can enjoy a life away from work.

The truth is that the easiest way to learn to hate something you love is to be required to do it.

Studies that I read as a college student in the 1970s supported that concept.

As I've gotten older and seen more, I've become less convinced by Goethe's advice that the happy man is the one who is required to do what he likes.

If one had to depend upon one's hobby for a living, to pay household bills, taxes and other living expenses, it would cease to be a relaxation, but something to worry about in case it did not bring enough money in each month and one would have to find some other hobby – assuming one was making enough money to indulge in hobbies!

My mother was a professional actress before she married, after which she participated in many amateur dramatic productions. Sometimes people in those groups would say how lucky she had been to act professionally, how enjoyable it must have been, &c.

She used to say, 'You enjoy it and have fun because you are playing at being actors. If you fail an audition, you just don't get the part you wanted; you aren't left worrying because you are out of work and don't know when you'll get offered another part. You don't have to always look your best and pretend to be cheerful when you're 'resting', short of money and desperate to get a job.'

I have made some – small – amounts of money by writing articles for magazines, contributing to a few books, selling books on military history I have reviewed. I've tried to limit my expenditure on wargaming to what I make in those ways, but would not dream of trying to earn a living from it.

I totally relate to this! I used to think the same about my hobbies, especially gaming. I love playing online casino games, and for a while, it was just a way to unwind. Then I found https://ausscasinosanalyzer.com/casino-bonuses/casinorocket.com, which reviews different casinos and their bonuses. They had a great breakdown of sign-up bonus codes, and it got me thinking. I started streaming my gameplay on Twitch and YouTube, writing reviews, and sharing tips on forums. Now, I make a decent side income from affiliate links and sponsorships. It's amazing how a fun pastime turned into a rewarding side hustle.

My dad had a different take one it:

Every job has Bleeped text Find one where you like the work and you don't mind the Bleeped text

I love my job. From Billy Joel:

Now you tell me you love somebody
And you love 'em forever
You may love 'em forever
But you won't like 'em all of the time

Now you tell me you need somebody
For the rest of your life
You might have somebody
But you won't want 'em every day

I love my job doesn't mean that I like absolutely every second of it. Same with my hobbies (one of which is my job).

Isaac Asimov wrote a great editorial where he responded to people who called him a "workaholic". He said if he worked as an accountant and spent the same amount of time writing, but not for money, writing would be his nice little hobby. Sour grapes is the upshot.

But I fall back to my standard:

What is the foolproof plan for making a small fortune in wargaming?

Start with a large fortune!

(not my joke … wish it was)
