You may have heard in the news about the heavy rainfall event we had on the Hudson River here in New York.

Fortunately, I was upriver of the main problem area, but we still got deluged, enough to overcome the drainage on the back subroof, and we got some flooding into the first floor ceiling, mostly in my painting room.

The good news is that, from long experience, most of my hobby stuff is kept in waterproof plastic containers.

The bad news is that the water managed to find the only minis stored in cardboard boxes! grin

The good news is that the box itself soaked up most of the moisture, and the painted minis inside were plastic-bagged or in tape-sealed boxes, so nothing ultimately was damaged.

I've moved the minis to plastic containers, and the box will become compost for the garden.

Glad to hear it. Over the years I have slowly moved much of my stuff in storage to plastic. Save a lot when my water heater went. Also keeps out bugs.

Good to hear that the collection is safe.

I am in the process of switching over from cardboard to plastic.

The 28's and 2's are safe. The 6's would be vulnerable, but I can't find equivalent non-cardboard boxes, and it would take quite an unusual flood or leak to reach them--and they'd have to be soaked to take any damage. Glad yours are OK.

After a water heater leak my whole collection gradually migrated to plastic. No more mice nests, lot fewer bugs, less dust and no worries about water. And the boxes are sturdier.

Mine are mostly in cardboard boxes inside plastic boxes. The cardboard boxes and lids are used as trays that stop the figures moving about. They are 120mm wide. Best of both worlds.

Mine are in cardboard in a very dry basement and will be onthe third (top) floor when we move back to Evanston….

Switching to plastic would be a very expensive project for me at this point….

Mine are 100% plastic. Even the terrain.
